You should have called him and told him that you are coming back to purchase Plat. D-D that you saw yesterday. If he said it was gone, so no need for you to come back later.

I told the AD to give me until tomorrow morning to decide.

Is this a watch that can be worn casually? I mainly wear casual clothes and my work is casual attire.
Hi OP, that is a fantastic watch. Yes, if you remove its value from your mind it is easily a daily.

With regard to VAT refund, I would advise you to be extremely vigilant if the Rolex store is obliging the use of “GlobalBlue” for said refund. Firstly, even if you are one of the small percentage of people who actually get some money back, you can expect it to be less than half after fees, kickback to AD and their Forex spread scam. If you’re within the higher percentage of unfortunate people who have been forced to use this entity, expect to receive back zero.

You need only google the name followed by scam or reviews to understand what I mean.

I’m hoping you get the watch and get you just VAT refund back

What’s wrong with global blue? I’ve used them for many purchases across Asia and Europe without a problem. They take a small cut, but there is no way around it…can’t tell the store I don’t want to use global blue etc

Lol no joke. I wish I took a photo. I have been texting my SA but they don’t speak English very well. They said there’s a 60/40 chance it’s available later since it’s an expensive piece and white gold and platinum is not popular here. Will report back on status in a few hours

I don't mean to spoil the fun but if it's in the window and available to tourists, maybe it's not that big a deal an autobuy? Why hadnt they sold it yet to the flippers or preferred clients?

Before anybody brings up grey prices, let's see the ones that actually sold and what's the dealer buy price, might not be as high as you think.

New models are always hot for first year as they are scarce. But eventually they start pumping them out and demand is met, hence the availability.

60k for a platinum fluted DD40, remember you could order these as late as 2020. Great watch but I don't know, tough call for me, not exactly a Platona. Plenty of other stuff can do with 60k.

Good luck OP, but like you said if it doesn't happen I don't think you'll lose sleep over it.

If OP is in Japan, which seems likely given the timing, the sales tax is deducted at point of sale.

I imagine it comes in a big box. The OP is from CA, any issues getting it back in the US with customs?

Did they know you were ready to buy when they turned you away this AM? If so, then something is rotten in Denmark. No AD is turning away a customer ready to drop $60K when they have the stock sitting there.

I’m glad (although highly surprised) your VAT refund experience was favorable. You are in the minority. The “small cut” is also great to hear. I and others I know cannot recommend them.

Platonas started rocketing in 2019 and that's after it had been in production for several years, plenty on the market and still shot up.

You could order any day date except for RG olive as late as early 2021, esp Plat DDs cause they were a high MSRP. The new Plat fluted is barely out less than a year, of course not a lot of them around. I don't expect any DD long term to be compared to a Daytona.

They did know, and they definitely did not care. I suspect they would rather sell to a local person who speaks the language but I’m not sure obviously. Will find out in a few hours.

yeah i remember, a lot of dealers were saying they'll get discontinued too and pumping the price. in mid 2020 new platonas were still less than msrp+tax though. they really went crazy towards the end of 2021 but that's just because it's a daytona and not so much because it's more value than a day date

i don't personally look at a platinum day date and say it's not worth it at that price point but a platinum chrono is lol, i think both are way overpriced at the end of the day but i would buy at msrp given the chance and funds

Although if I had paid duty, it would have been worth it.

My guess is they are more concerned about the person with a duffle bag of counterfeit Nike socks, or the backpack containing a live python. Not as concerned with collecting some tariff.

I read somewhere that Rolex PMs are actually a great bang for your buck compared to other brands, because of the amount of PM you get is a lot.

Yeah I guess it's not a bad deal at 60k vs a Platona at 75-80k. Buy it if you love it.

I’ve actually tried declaring my 116613LB that I purchased in Paris a few years ago. Customs told me to just leave. Might be bc I had global entry and she didn’t want to hold up the line, but I think it really depends on how busy the line airport is.

4 more hours until judgement day

Yeah, maybe, but I suspect something else is going on.

You were ready to buy and you previously said they told you PT is not popular among locals.

What kind of question is this?

There would only be issues if he doesn't declare it.

It's too valuable to play games and risk getting it confiscated as well as heavy fines.

I’ve got one hour left. SA said 5-6 people ahead of me from the line this morning. I think I have a 80% chance at this point
