Stolen Rolex 124060 today Please help

Hello everyone, New member here and very sad news.
My watch got stolen today inside the Bank of America Branch 7395 Mission St. Daly City Ca 94014. The guy going by the name of Joey Kurt in Facebook (account is now deactivated) switch the money envelope of $13,900 cash to one $100 dollar and bunch of $1 dollar bill. After I had the bank teller counted the money twice using the machine. It is a Rolex 124060 Serial # 985V54Y6 WITH A DATE OF PURCHASE 21-04-2022 stamped on the Rolex card. I purchased the watch on May 2022 at Chrono24 site thru a Grey Market dealer in Florida.

Please help and spread the news.

Jun

At what point do you think the scammer switched the envelopes? Good luck.

stolen

We have been going back and forth that I wanted the money deposited to my account to the teller. He insisted that we go outside and get his ID and signed a receipt . I said No and told him give him the money now and i'll give you the rolex. He got two envelopes obviously and switch it then. After he went outside, I gave the envelope to the bank teller, and the moment I saw all 1 dollar bills and $100 on top, I knew it then that I got robbed. It is the same teller who counted the money twice. I'll get a video report from the bank tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that. In hindsight, it would have been better to ask the teller to deposit the money into your account instead of taking it back in envelop

Note to self as we keep hearing this same story over and over...
Never sit the money envelope down or give it back to the buyer unless a full recount will be performed…
Sorry to hear this happened to you!

Have you considered using the initial email address for the IP address and then sender’s location? I’m guessing you’d need the assistance of police to go this route. But the thief may have taken precautions against be identified this way.

About 5"6, euopean, thick accent, beard, chubby. Was wearing navy blue tight jacket, I will try to get a photo/video footage from the bank soon.

Professional and old scam. Very difficult to identify when you are in the moment.

Sorry for your troubles, hope the video leads to an arrest and return of your property.

Sorry to hear this unfortunate situation, but why wouldn't you have given the money to the teller first to be counted and deposited into your account, and then given the watch to the buyer?

I recall hearing the same scam used at a bank in Huntersville, NC which ended in a foot Chase and altercation.
Crazy times we live in.

Wow, that seems like him. Hopefully he gets caught and all watches return to their rightful owners!

Doesn’t Chrono24 offer escrow in US? Why we dealing with cash in hand of over $10k??

Ouch. That is an expensive lesson in life. My condolences.

Best to sell to an AD that has a pre-owned section, or sell to a highly trusted reseller. Any reputable business, really. You will get lower offers than if you privately sell on your own, but it's worth it to avoid these kind of things.

If a deal is too good to be true then it will always have a back story. No legit buyer in their right mind would be paying for $13,900 for a used 124060 when an unworn one can be purchased from a bricks and mortar store for less.

I still do not think I get the sequence of events.

You are in the bank, the teller counts the money twice and it adds up, at what point after it is counted twice do you give him back the “Good envelope” and you receive the “Bad envelope”.

I am truely sorry just trying to understand it for others.

Good luck

The buyer withdrew the money. The teller will have handed the buyer the envelope.

Sorry to hear OP. I used to live in SF and visited Daly City quite often to go to Costco etc

Hope that guy gets caught, prosecuted, and get his teeth / brain knocked out in prison.

It’s CA tho, so cops and DA won’t do anything.

In the future, I highly recommend getting a CCW as well and let them know you are carrying before you meet up

At what point in time did the ‘switch’ happen.

Another reason I take a little less and sell to a professional dealer. Sorry for your loss. I can understand why you thought this was a "low risk" transaction. Good luck on the recovery.

Terrible news. Easy to say after the fact, but it should have been a direct deposit to your account at the bank. He must pull this scam often if he was savy enough to pull the switch in the bank in front of you. You will have the video and hopefully he can be caught. I hope things work out for you.
