UK insurance suggestions

Looking for a reputable and sensibly priced insurer for my newly acquired daytona.
Home insurance is with aviva.
Any suggestions?

I’ve got mine insured under my house policy with Axa. Off the top of my head you can select up to £40k valuable items including away from the home with a single item limit of £10k. They will be worth checking out it will cover the RRP of your Daytona.

Hiscox, also home insurance. There is no itemisation required for the most part, there's no requirement for valuation, no compulsion to keep valuables in a safe and stuff is covered whilst worn and worldwide not just in the home. There's no upper limit for total cover, though anything individually over £15k does need to be itemised. I've worked out that for me, cover roughly costs circa £100 extra per annum per £10000 item value.

Consider how you'd feel about claiming on home insurance though, as some people aren't so keen. If you're one of those people there are specialist insurers but during my research I found them too expensive versus what I could get with my home insurance.

I will be insuring it for 22k on new for old if I can (its a RG Chocolate dial) so I will need a bit more cover than that. No idea what limits these companies impose?

The true test of an insurer is how much shite you have to deal with come claim time, so with the caveat that I've fortunately not had to make a claim, they are by far the most pleasant insurance company I've had to deal with. I basically just gave them the value of the stuff that I needed covered and I'm covered, more or less no questions asked, new for old.

all i have to say, is make sure you read the exclusions and conditions. UK insurance is notorious for having all kinds of non covered events.

I have had UK insurance before with the following exclusions:
In a safe or on my wrist... otherwise not covered
Loss by anyone you let in your house (builder, cleaner, nanny)... not covered
In a hotel, has to be in the hotel safe
Safe in house has to have minimum cash rating and be professionally installed
if your safe key is in your house when you suffer a loss... not covered

needless to say, i use US insurance since i am able to

I went through a broker called Highworth

No restrictions regarding safes, alarms, covering them up in public etc. Covered in and away from the home worldwide

Policy is underwritten by legal and General so perfectly reputable

I was with Hiscox for many years and 6 years ago had a substantial claim (pipe burst) which they processed faultlessly and didn’t jack up the premium in following years.

However, last year I increased my insurance mid term due to purchases and the company made a number of errors (that in effect left me not insured correctly) and have admitted as much in writing though they have kept the substantial increase in premium.

I am deciding if I can be bothered to go to the Ombudsman.

Interesting.

When I get it I would only feel comfortable wearing it every day in case some hoodie with a knife decided they wanted it. If fully insured they would be welcome to it.

I don't mind paying slightly more for a reputable company who offers cover without jumping through hoops designed to get them off a claim should one be required.

Your comments are all welcome thanks.

Any experience of claiming anyone? (UK of course)

Hi there I was in the same boat last week but for my GMT (I was looking for watch cover only though not house insurance) read lots on here and ended up with two that stood out. First was TH March second was AssetSure. I went with the latter as both had lots of good reviews but latter was about £80 cheaper per year and seemed to have all the same benefits. Hope that’s of some help. Cheers

Hiscox. Very good insurance company. The test as they say is in the eating.

Unfortunately we had to use their claims side and they were fantastic. Everything dealt with over the phone, very fast pay out, direct to our bank.

Slightly more expensive premium than some for buildings and contents, but the customer service is 2nd to none in our opinion. Meaning as in the Wife.

TH march was over £1k a year for a Patek 5524G so that seems about the same ballpark as that

That's actually only £300 less that my annual home insurance premium, which includes unlimited contents cover, all the watches in my signature plus the wife's watches and jewellery.

Ricockulous.

standalone policies are more expensive for sure. There is some advantage in that the high risk stuff isn't on with your home if you think you may be making a claim and risk losing home cover. You pay for it though

I called my home insurer who have covered it for all risks for no extra cost. I was surprised too.
Only caveats are wearing it or in the safe.

I can do that

I have building and contents insurance with Aviva, too.

Just add it as a names item. The premium will be increased slightly but not by a huge amount.
