There’s a dude selling an Aquanaut 5164 for $65k on TRF

Just disgusting what the Patek world has turned into. Makes me not like the brand anymore. I hope it doesn’t sell.

70% over retail......it pisses me off too. 65k for that watch is stupid. It definitly sucks the fun out of the watch hobby seeing those numbers. Its a strange time we are living in

What difference does it make what he sells it for? It’s his watch. Nobody is being forced to buy it.

Additional comment. There’s a guy on another watch forum selling a new 5711 with a gem set bezel for 495K. And somebody already asked how to get in touch via email.

I’m selling my 1984 TT DJ for $80,000. It’s a collectible! One-of-a-kind! A unique mix of scratches and dents that is unlike anything available. The bracelet has a level of stretch that even Rolex didn’t know was possible. No wait list. No run around with an AD, and it’s in stock (in my dresser drawer). And better yet, I’m not a grey. Just a trusted seller for this one watch.

Not trying to insult You but you dont like the brand because you cant get access to any nice pieces. It isnt the brands fault that your AD screwed you when they said buy a 5296 and I feel for you Bro but dont blame the brand. Where were You years ago when they werent so hot? Many of Us have been in this game a long time and bought some dogs and taken some losses so it is hard for me to sympathize. As for the guy selling, Maybe he wants to upgrade into something more expensive and keep his money within the brand. I see no issue with that.

There is also a guy selling a Panerai at 34% off retail BNIB. The choice on how to spend his money is up to the consumer.

It would be dumb of Patek and for their bottomline to increase production to a point where anyone can get their watches.. they'll sell for below RRP and will be a lot less desirable. Both Rolex and Patek created incredible Veblen goods. As a sign of goodwill, I'm willing to offer you my 5164A for $54,800. Talk about a steep and generous discount!

Meh. If it’s priced too high, don’t buy it. Nothing to do with Patek.

Yeah I agree with the others what one guy wants to sell a watch at shouldn’t affect your opinion of the brand. Frankly, if you could buy the watch used for 50% off you’d probably never buy it from the AD. Such is the way. Pateks are all great watches and there are several great pieces readily available if you’re not set on a nautilus or aquanaut.

Exactly! For years they had these watches sitting on the shelves and couldn’t give them away. Now all of a sudden “enthusiasts” are upset at Patek for not buying into the hype and not increasing production.

It’s a joke. If someone is smart enough to sell that watch for its asking price and someone else is stupid enough to pay the price, has nothing to do with Patek. Patek is not going to increase production and get burned with unsold inventory when the bubble pops- and it will.

The crazy one isn’t the guy selling the watch at that price but rather the guy buying it! That being said I don’t think anything with a basic 324 is worth a dollar above retail! Hell they should be 20% off lol

Who really cares? If you do not want the watch, do not buy it. Problem solved.

Immature to blame PP for a thriving secondary market.

Just because it's listed for that doesn't mean that's what it'll go for. Maybe I need to see it more in the flesh but I sure as hell wouldn't pay anywhere close to that for an aquanaut.

I agree that it is COMPLETELY ridiculous — but having said that - it’s not Patek’s fault....

The only thing you can “blame” Patek for is not increasing production to try to match demand. And they’ve given their reasons for not doing so. So if you think $65k is too much for the watch, offer less or look elsewhere. Sure it’s frustrating, but you can explore other brands or stay out of the game for awhile.
