Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary - Stainless Steel

The Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Speedmaster is now live on Omega's website along with a first impression review and some additional pics on Hodinkee. I really like the look of this Speedy, feel like they knocked this one out of the park .

Only thing I don't like is that it's an LE with nearly 7K being produced...will be interesting to see how quickly they all are spoken for.

I'd also love to see the rest of their Speedy lineup get the updated movement as well.

Bit of a miss for me.

9 o’clock sub dial is cheesy.

Too many pieces made.

$10k too expensive.

Rolex make probably 2 or 3 times more stainless steel Daytona's every year.
Not once but EVERY year :-)

10K too expensive ? why ?
You thikn this co-axial is not worth it ?
Probably one of the best chronograph movements out there, including Rolex it's 4130 calibre ...which costs more than 10K

I do sort of agree with this however. I think the footprint from the back may have worked better on the sub dial. Or maybe just a pick of the lunar lander

Saw the news this morning, not really huge fan. I was really hoping the new 321 was going to find its way in the Apollo release.

I like it... A concern is if they put these updates on the regular moon watch next month for half the price.
I wonder what the value retention would be like for this model with soo many being produced.
Seems like there is not such a milky ring on the sapphire which is good.

They most likely will put the update on the regular Speedmaster. But it won't be half the price.
Supposedly, the price of them will increase as well.

No thank you. The only thing I like about it is the bracelet and the movement. If they add those features to the regular steel Speedmaster then I'll get excited.

I totally never saw the "11" on the dial until it was pointed out on another forum. Cool little detail. I really like this watch but that's a lot of $$$. Not sure I can spend close to $10K on an Omega

I don't get why, of all the amazing shots of Buzz Aldrin on the moon, they chose to use this particular "butt shot" image? It's not even the best picture of him leaving the module.

If I had to pick an image to use on the 9 sub I'd go with this one. Simple timeless breathtaking shot and you can actually see him wearing the moonwatch. This would have been perfect and would have looked so much better on the watch IMO

I think they chose it because you can see the sole of his boot in that image which ties into the engraved footprint on the caseback.

I guess that makes sense but it's the one part of the watch that will most likely prevent me from buying it. I just don't think that subdial looks right. I'm not against putting an image on it but I think this particular image just looks too busy.

Maybe seeing one in-person will change my mind...

I thought exactly the same thing, then it dawned on me....the pic would need to be zoomed in to see Buzz Aldrin meaning the subdial hand would probably be centred around his crotch. There are plenty of other pics they could have used...why not just a picture of the moon if this hasn't already be done.

Honestly I think the best thing they could have done was just leave the regular 60 sec dial on there. It's a beautiful watch. They didn't need to put a graphic on the 9 at all. The graphic on the back is more than enough IMO.

The biggest issue is the quote on the back....
"One small step for a man.....,"

Armstrong actually said...
"One small step for man...."

There's been debate for years that he meant to say A man....
But didn't!

He admitted that he botched the line. I think it is proper to use the quote as Neil intended it. After-all, the way he said it doesn't make any sense. I'm sure that haunted him his entire life.

How omega can print that misquote is beyond me. Butt shot of Aldrin is the deal breaker too!

According to computer analysis, he did say “a”. I’m quit sure Omega did their research before deciding on this.

I found it hilarious that just a few weeks after omega released this with the quote that includes “a” LEGO released a set that doesn’t include it. https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/31/1...set-space-moon
