Took a chunk out of white gold case?

On my 5524, I’ve noticed this scratch which I first thought was something on the surface of the case. I took my new phone out to zoom in and snap a picture and I’m confused with what I’ve found. I can’t tell if it’s a chunk out of the case? A dent?

I know, I know, maybe I shouldn’t own such nice things

The mark on the case between the 21 and 22 minute markers that kinda looks like the shape of the US with Florida curling to the East instead of to the south :-)

You think that’s a dent? I thought it was a surface rash with the naked eye but looks very different close up.

Looks like a flaw in the casting.

Looks like part of whatever happened along with the rash to the right of it. But it appears like a small chunk taken out of the metal. Maybe take a pic a little further back, to see the bottom half of the case/bezel

Can you promise us, that you will wrap your 5168g up in cotton wool, and leave it in your safe so it does not take the same abuse :

No casting involved, profile stamped out of solid metal, then machined into final shape.

That’s rough. I’d suggest a g shock or Rolex for rough wear. Patek is for pampering.

The scratches were there before this happened. That was because of my trunk insert smacking my wrist as I pull it down.

I already kinda do that, the 5524 is my daily and I’m fine with whatever happens to it. I wear my DSSD when doing anything that is beyond just normal daily life and almost always change to my DSSD when I get home.

Mystery solved! It was neither a dent or a scratch. I cleaned it up this morning to take a better picture and one from a far like requested and it has disappeared. I had cleaned it a couple times prior and it didn’t come off but used dish soap this time and viola!

Ah, right… but as we’ve subsequently found out, it was a bit of albumen (egg white) stuck to the surface, from when he was rustling up scrambled eggs!
We can all now breathe a collective sigh of relief that no Patek was harmed in the making of breakfast.
