Thanks.

I know the 4365 had the Precision text and that takes us back to 1945

Not 100% certain but one of the first was the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Super Precision from around 1930 Ref 5011. Later manual wind Rolex Precision was Ref 4417 from 1939/40 both of these was not available in the USA then. There were many names used by Rolex at these early years that were not available to the USA market. Then mainly Canada, UK, and at that time the Commonwealth countries and Asia.

I was trying to find the first Precision on the Internet last night and I did see several 1930s Super Precisions. Maybe the SPs came before the Precisions?

Thanks Peter and Joe.

I believe this one to be in the early 30's but haven't been able to confirm it yet.

Picked it up late last night so I need to investigate further.

Something tells me they started in the early 30's?

It is an Oyster case and I know they started 1927.

I think you're right. They tended to tout their patents, awards, and achievements back then. I'd say 1930 is right in there. This hobby would be no fun if Rolex ever opened an archive to the public

Right, half the fun is the hunt and chasing info the other.

The third half is just winding, setting time and selling.

Spent a couple of Hr's researching but can't find any info on this watch.

Peter, do you have anything in your books on it?

It's a Ladies Oyster Precision with a rivet bracelet and no #'s anywhere except the 3732 inside the caseback.

That bracelet looks aftermarket. It does not quite go with the watch. I'll look this up later.

To be honest, that looks like a flat end oyster to me. What do the clasp markings look like?

The example in my book is approx 1935. 540xxx serial it is usually on the outer side of the case back. As i am sure you know Ladies watches were often named by case design in the old days eg. Octagon yours is described in the texts as a "rare" "Cylindrical case model. " Movement number either ref 500 or ref 510 both started 1935. 19.4 mm size for both It's a 8 three quarter hunter movement made by aegler. Upgrades occurred from its inception in the late 20's from 15 to versions in 16, 17 jewels and a 18 jewel version, watches with over 17 jewels were marked precision on the movement. In 1928, Rolex introduced the “Super Balance” all rolexes were passing precision "a standard" certification it appears the odd watch showed precision on the movement or dial. At this time rolex got side tracked with automatic movements and it appears until the movement upgrades in 1935 rolex did not mark dials or movements this way consistently. They began to be consistantly marked precision on the dial starting 1935 with the upgrades, I think you have a rare gem of a watch monbk an early precision marked watch. Hope this helps.

So do I and you're right on the movement Joe.

Now I'm just waiting to hear what the good Dr. has to say about the bracelet!!

BTW, I know how to set the date and time on a Rolex.
