Yes. That is the new display insert that Rolex has been sending ADs. It doesn't even have slots for watches.

Funny that there's another thread talking about BLRO's dropping in price. If you can't even get an Air-King there's no way the BLRO's are going to drop in price. This reflects what I see all over the country. Either empty or mid sized two tone DJ's. I think if anything, owning any steel sports models value is going to remain higher.

Please tell us more

In Vegas now and the boutiques look the same. There was one boutique that had 5 Lady DJ’s and two very bored sales people.

Guess that means us in the bottom 99% just don’t know the right people honestly though, good for you

OP. The AD I do business at typically do not display their popular pieces. They reserve them for their long time customers. There was one empty section just like this at one point but it has since been filled with various precious metal SkyD, YMII, YM, Submariner.

How would you like to be the sales associate at Ben Bridge who gets 30 calls a day for a submariner?

It wouldn’t be too bad. I would just give them the spiel of how they have to buy something from me to “establish a relationship” and perhaps they will get a sub in the future. 😩

Wow, that's sad! Seems like display cases have become redundant. The goodies are just in the ADs safe out back. I've personally lost interest in dropping into ADs due to empty displays and poor service. Sure, they might enjoy big profits for now, but this can't be good for business in the long term. So it goes. Cheers!

Yes. My AD had a display case/cases that would hold over 400 Rolexes. Since the demand/supply issue of the last 2 years Rolex has sent them (on multiple occasions) new pads with fewer watch trays/slots in them and also several of those pads with no watch slots in them. Pretty ridiculous times!

You need special glasses to see all the watches in the case...only the VIPs get them though.

Howdy,

Wow, did I misread the title of this thread.... not at all what I expected (and probably for the best).

Take care,

What's the point

If there were 25 Daytonas and 25 blue Sky Dwellers selling for 12k each, one person would buy them all and sell them for double the price. If Rolex doubled the msrp then someone would still buy them all and sell them for 1.5 times the price. Either way they will never be available again for the normal consumer.

I have seen this new store set and it's very true to that concept.

A nicely diminished merchandising display incorporating traditional showcases with smaller pedestal display cases highlighting select models that the AD has the good fortune to be able to offer.

The watch count per case is much less.

Overall it gives the feel of exclusivity and instills a sense of FOMO with the buyer. It is quite effective.

While we complain about it to no end, the overall market does not. In fact it favors this as can be seen by the record sales.

When the luxury market decides that ubiquity is acceptable and value depreciation is OK, perhaps Rolex will stuff the AD with watches like they did a few years ago. I'm not saying it won't happen, but for now, this is what the lux market prefers.

Been out of the hunt since 2008 when I got a ss Daytona to keep my 16710 and anniversary sub company. Wanted to buy both a 39mm MKII Explorer and a 126711. The Explorer and two tone GMT should have been in stock at most AD’s. Looked all over and not a one in sight. Not going to pay grey market prices so I’m out before I even got back in. Bought a Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope and a Longines Avigation Big Eye instead. That’ll have to hold me over until the next recession. Can’t get exited anymore over Rolex watches made out of Unobtanium.
