Why no love for the black-dial Deepsea?

I see people posting about their D-blue watches, and the boards are full of people selling/buying them, but why so little love for the black dial one? Personally I love/prefer that styling.

Me personally, the Dblue dial just makes it that much more special

The blue is more... challenging :) More hard to find actually. If it was not the size, I would really fall for it... Blue is not very appealing to me, idk why. It may shows a soft edge :)

D-Blue has a very unique look, different than any other Rolex. The black on the other hand, if you're not in the know, just looks like any other black Rolex... I think that's why the blue is in much higher demand and hard to get. The black, on the other hand, is pretty much readily available.

I love the blue gradient dial and have one on order. It's going to be my first Rolex. Can't wait...

Rolex really got it right with the DSSD Blue, perhaps making an originally planned more limited edition become part of the 2018 update to the watch and continued part of Rolex’ line-up. And none of that takes anything away from the amazing Black Dial version.

I think an all blue dial would of been too much, but the gradient dial gives an unexpected balance to the huge but imminently wearable watch (especially in the recent 126660). The fact that the blue comes out even a little more in bright light is very cool but understated keeping the blue from looking gimmicky but instead is throughly a 21st Century Rolex.

None of this takes place at the expense of the Black Dial, but together with the 126660 update, helps promote the entire DSSD brand and make it less of a niche watch (but a great over engineered dive watch too) as no one was ever going to 3,900 meters anyway. I think the Blue Dial gives a lot of additional non-divers a compelling visual reason to buy it, and compelled me as a hobbyist diver to also use it as my daily wearer.

This thread will become a testament of preference, and that thread has already been done, with people preferring the blue by a significant margin as the OP alludes to.

I would happily wear the Black 126660 if not for the Blue one already on my wrist.

When I was looking to acquire my first Rolex from all the models I pick D-Blue. However, I end up with DSSD black. The reason was simple. Two months ago during my lunch break I walk into local AD. Of course no SS sport models available but he had a DSSD 116660. He offered me 10% discount and six month 0% interest. I couldn't pass the offer and purchased my first Rolex. One month forward, he called me and said if I'd like to purchase BLNR. So I purchase BLNR and have both now. The thing is I can't wear BLNR after wearing DSSD. BLNR feels too small and light. I love DSSD as my daily watch. I have that watch presens on my wrist and it's hard for me to go from big watch to small one. As for DSSD black, I think the black is more classy and you never get tired of that. Also, IMO 116660 is the first DSSD model and it will go in history as such. Don't take other people preferences, go with your own.

I got the black because it was readily available at my local AD. Didnt know that the blue was more desirable until i did some research but so far I've been wearing it daily with no regrets. Its now harder to find and is suddenly selling at a premium on the grey market in my country.

I love how the black DSSD is so under the radar yet gives off a great wrist presence without it being too outstanding.

I ended up getting a D-blue because it offered more visual appeal to me personally, and actually looks black in certain light. I think black is classic Rolex, and blue is a little less common so is probably talked about more.

I love both, and think black will always remain the more iconic version of the two. The D-blue is a little more fun and wild with the combo of blue and green.

I sure like the black. I like both but you are right, the blue gets more noticed. Black tends to be so safe and conservative that the trend for color on a dive watch is very appealing for many.

I have the James Cameron version of it and absolutely love it!! The black deep sea has big computation from the SD43, the JC and even the sub, whilst the JC sits in a class by itself imho

I personally don't get the appeal of the blue but that's just my opinion, I've owned 2 black DSSD's and have gone away from the most recent in lieu of the SD 43 for reasons that have been brought up on other threads about the top-heavy aspect and feeble bracelet width of the original models. Now, that being said I would love to try one of the new ones and see how the new bracelet design addresses this. FYI - my brother has been in the hunt for the Deep Blue for a while now - just doesn't want to pay the freight... :)

AREN'T THESE WATCHES THE SAME IN ALMOST EVERY WAY ANYWAY?

Viewing these watches on tablets and laptops causes us to see the DSSD at many times larger than their actual size. Their visual differences are far more subtle in real life.

In most light, less than half of the 'blue' dial is blue, the two DSSD watches have far more in common that in contrast.

If you traded one for the other would anyone at work or at home even notice? If you traded for an SD43 would they notice? No in either case for me.

This is an awesome over engineered wonderfully wearable dive watch that are just ever-so-barely shy of being fully identical twins. I guess hair splitting on a Rolex forum is legitimate, but none of us live or wear our watches here.

That bothered me as he is a Hollywood director and not a scientific diver, etc... Reminds me of a Omega marketing stunt. The watch is nice enough to stand on its own.

You know what - That is part of what turned me off on it from the get go. I didn't like the Hollywood angle on the model, AND I didn't like the dial, or the price... Just my opinion of course.. Fan of the black.

Can’t go wrong with the classic black dial, but the Dblue is really well done. It stands out really nicely in person, which is why it is more popular I assume. There’s nothing like it in the Rolex lineup.

From afar, a black DSSD looks like a Sub C except for the case size and thickness. I really admired his Rolex can be innovative on the use of color bezel and dial as seen by the LV and this DSSD blue model.

I love the matte black dial. So much contrast to a typical sub or GMT glossy.
