I've just focused on watches I can actually get. Life is short, if I find a rare bird fine but I'm not chasing it. There are too many options and great brands.

This! Not so much because of a lack of availability, but more so because I'm happy with my collection and nothing modern is pulling me.

The vintage world, however, is drawing me in. Purchased a snowflake recently, and if I buy anything in the near future, it will most definitely be another vintage.

Look at other brands with a impressive horological history. It’s always heathy to have a diverse collection.

I know what you mean. I’m there myself. I’m very content with what I have and I haven’t added in years. However, I am on the hunt for something blue.

I agree, there was a new Sub Date with 16 bumps.

Not too crazy over retail either so that says a lot.

I would find a new hobby if your hobby is trying to buy hard to find SS Rolex.

To bad you settle for Rolex and not open your horizons to the full offering of Horology.

There are other brands of watches out there for you to consider. I would suggest Graham or Invicta for you at this time. Wait til the bubble bursts as everyone else says, but you may be to old to care by then. Lol

I'm getting bored of Rolex to be frank. Looking at IWC, Panerai, JLC and AP. Nothing really urging me to buy though.
Buy vintage, always something new.

Glad you are willing to appreciate other brands as most have a fierce loyalty to one brand. What’s the skittles slogan again? “Taste the rainbow”! Enjoy your new pursuits and hope your love for Rolex doesn’t completely wane.

I feel just the opposite. The hunt has become harder and for me that makes it all the more special. I put my name down, I wait, I buy other brands, I search...and research.

If you never had to hunt, you probably are not an enthusiast....let alone a collector.

Interesting take. My local watch buds and I all love JLC, but none of us have actually pulled the trigger on one yet. The Master Control has been the brides maid on the last 10 watches I purchased. I absolutely love JLC and hope to own one one day. They look great in pictures and even better in person.

That changed a bit when my AD called 3 weeks ago telling me my long awaited BLRO came in.

Since then I also bought a new TT Datejust for my wife. I guess the interest came back..
That probably goes for the OP and lots as well. Say the AD calls today and offers ceramic Daytona or blue sky dweller.. pretty sure sparks be flying for interest again lol

There are thousands of Rolexs out there (every model) for sale from reputable sellers. The reality is that RRP doesn't really exist anymore as there are no sports models in steel available, so it's not worth waiting for a call from an A.D, (unless you are one of the tiny few who have won the golden ticket). RRP is no longer a valid base line of price comparison. The market is the price.

Agreed will probably be my next purchase. You can actually see them and try them on so that’s a huge plus. The movements are works of art and visible, also a huge plus. Still like you said always a bridesmaid.

Ha the funny thing is if the bubble truly bursts and ss sports are widely available in the cases and no premium can had for flipping a lot of people lusting after them previously will no longer want them

The shortage is frustrating, but doesn’t that make people appreciate the watch’s they have got? I personally think if they were readily available and everyone had one then they wouldn’t be as special!

What I'd really like to know is when the snooty AD sales staff will actually start treating us like respectable clients again and the whole game ends so we can go back to the old ways. I honestly don't mind not getting some of the watches I just get turned off by the attitude.

I think that's where we are; they were available, and every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a few bucks went out and got themselves one. Those buyers have cheapened it (the passion, not the watches themselves), and frustrated those who have a real appreciation for the watches. So, yeah, they are less special now.

Personally, though I appreciate their place, I'm not hung up on Rolex. There are only a couple of other Rolex pieces I'd like, and I can wait for those. I'm surely not kissing any ass for them.

Life's ebb and flow.

That's Life

That's life (that's life) that's what people say
You're riding high in April
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said, that's life (that's life) and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin' around

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life (that's life) I tell ya, I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin' flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life) that's life
And I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin' out but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come here this July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die
My, my
