There's alot of nice watches out there other than Rolex. Some cheaper, some more expensive and many of them readily available.

I agree with the notion that rarity brings on more interest. I wasn’t a Daytona fan but now I am contacting my AD to ask on the average wait time for SS Daytonas.

Does anyone have an average number of years? Or is it more like a lottery?

This cannot be debated: If you are posting in this thread, no matter your position, you're technically still interested.

Took me 14 years to get my daytona and have been into watches since the early 80's. Not to be judgemental, but I think there are a lot of folks that saw some watches on the instabook and find they cant get it now and get turned off and want to take their bag and go home. And listen, I get it, the current market for rolex stinks, but there are sooo many other great watches, vintage (or not too vintage rolex), IWC, Breitling, GS, Seiko, etc.

I haven't necessarily lost interest since new watches fresh from the AD have never been my thing, but with the state of the forum I've definitely been checking in a lot less.

It all depends on what one is after.
And in some cases, the status or nature of your relationship with them.

I think it does help if you go fishing with them any chance you can get and they're not too busy to get away for a day.

There's a difference between losing interest and having completely lost interest. It's an odd time for Rolex and I agree with Chester01 and the newbie perspective on something that in 2019 is not so simple to buy. It is what it is.

I’m not on a list and never plan to be. In fact I would never even consider paying MSRP for a Rolex. Let alone above MSRP

I have my Explorer and I love it. Love the discount I got on it to.

There is definitely more to life than wasting valuable time hunting for a hot model.

After 33 years wearing Rolex I'm still very interested in Rolex watches, and the forum, is a hobby for me.

Same. Content with the Rolex watches I own too. Perhaps consider other brands?

Well said. Nothing worse than seeing grown men kick and scream over having to wait in line to buy a piece of jewelry. It’s like crying starvation in the Old Country Buffet simply because there are 5 people ahead of them in the fried chicken line.

Grand Seiko is the way to go.

Re: hobby and community with no more input.

Ask interesting questions and you’ll get interesting answers. I understand your OP. I get it, but contribute something interesting. There’s a lot more to weed these days, but there is still a lot to learn around here. When I have time and am pretty active I learn something regularly around here.

Fair enough. But that's exactly the point with Rolex now.

It can be what ever number they want.. I can't see people actually paying these prices though.. be holding onto that asset for a while

Fortunately I like the models that aren’t overly popular.

Since I posted on this thread using a keyboard then technically I'm interested in keyboards, but truth is i'm really not.
