DJ41 calendar change?

I just to the DJ41 yesterday and since I usually go to be around 12:30 a.m. I was checking to see if it changes exactly at 12:00 a.m.. The date didn't change until 12:04 a.m.. Does anyone else notice exactly what time their calendar change? Should it change exactly at 12:00 a.m. or is it normal for it to change a few minutes after midnight? I may be over thinking this..

It's normal for a lot of Rolex. Most people will say who cares, but I think it would be nice for these watches people spend thousands and thousands of dollars on to work precisely.

As long as it changes a minute or so either way not any problem, its not a electronic process its purely mechanical.

My DJ41 changes right at midnight. Not sure if it’s worth getting checked out or not. I feel like it mainly comes down to personal preference. If it was me, my OCD would have it fixed haha

Agreed. I would want it to work precisely as well.

Mine changes at like 12:06am. A bit late, but not worth me worrying about right now. When/if I send it to the RSC at some point down the line maybe I’ll mention it.

My DJ41 (1 month old) Changes The Date exactly at midnight if I am advancing the hands in crown position 3. However, on its own, mine changed date at 12:05am similar to yours.

Likewise, my 3 month old BLNR does the same. It does bug me a bit that they do not charge at 12:00.

I tried at the 3 position manually and it changed at 12:02 exactly. Since hearing from others we wish it would be exactly at 12:00 a.m. but I guess it's not a major problem if it changes 4 minutes after 12:00 a.m.. Thanks..

Rolex is very poor at this. I have a $40,000 DD40 and it changes around 12:30.

The official tolerance is -1/+2 minutes. Confirmed at my Dallas RSC out of curiosity when I was picking up one of my watches.

That is correct

Not that there's anything wrong with the watch if it changes outside of that 3 minute window, other than sloppy quality control.

Mines the same. A few mins after. No point asking to have hands repositioned and fiddly as you like

I have seven with the date function, the date change takes place 1-9 mins after midnight. Not an important thing, at least to me.

My DJ changes whilst I am asleep and is correct when I wake up, I'm happy with that.

Seems strange that Rolex guarantees accuracy as +/- a few seconds a day, but the date change is off by minutes.

I don't care either way as my watch doesn't have a date function but seems....well who cares what I think.

Mine seem to change around 2 to 6 after except I noticed my 5 dig Gmtll is a gradual turn not a click at around 10 or so after. Yes Its mechanical and nbd to me. It always works and doesn't need batteries...

As far as I recall, Rolex UK officially say any change between 5 minutes before midnight up till 10 past midnight is within spec.

You know, this has been discussed many times here. Search, and you’ll find all of the convos about this.

It’s normal.

All my Rolex and Tudor change 2 to 4 minutes after 12am.

Good enough for me.

In the distant past i've had a couple of Rolex watches come back after a service where the date would routinely change within 3 - 15 seconds after midnight.

Not in recent times though.
Currently it's probably within 2 - 3 minutes for all the ones in our household.

The movement is quite precise, and once, each 24 hours, it instantly changes the date.

Unfortunately, the hands that are physically placed on the dial by a watchmaker, are only a representation of the rotating works.

A mechanical watches dial representation is only as precise as the watchmakers skills, and the relationship of the hands to the painted dial and the variance of all the nuts, bolts, and wigglepins that hold the whole together.

So the watchmaker has the skill to place the hands on the dial with a 2 second deviation for time, but several minutes deviation for date. I don’t understand your explanation.

Hand placememt had nothing to do with time deviation. However, if a watch includes a date complication, the hands need to be aligned to midnight at the point when the movement advances the date. So any deviation around date change is due to hand placement, not accuracy of the movement. Make sense?

Accuracy of timekeeping has nothing to do with the moment of date change, right?

My DJ41 changes consistently a little after 12:09. It’s disappointing that it isn’t right at 12:00, but I’m an accuracy nerd, not a date change nerd. We all have our quirks.
