Door Case Versus 5740
I will save everyone the suspense.....the door case is fine
 The 5740 bezel did not do so well though. Was actually surprised how hard my wrist hit it when walking. Not losing sleep over it as I wear all of my watches...To create further uneasiness in the forum, I found my Bergeon scratch pens. I can’t help myself. Why not try them out...lol

Man, that’s a bummer, but you have the right attitude. That would take the Patek service center about 10 min to fix, I suppose (after taking everything apart, as they would for a normal service anyhow).
Different note, I freakin love the 5740. Such great proportions. |

I do feel bad that this happened to you. White gold and a belt buckle are not a good combination, and I remember that awful feeling pretty well.
But, I think it's great that you actually wear your watches. And having a positive attitude, like you do, helps with a lot more than just watch repair. Best of luck on the damage mitigation. I am still living with my cut (on the bracelet, so not even in the same league). |

That is a tough break, I'd get it fixed but maybe send it in in a few months when things are hopefully more efficient.

I have and tried those Bergeon scratch pens on a brushed Rolex bracelet. Made it worse actualy. Had better/good results with scotch brite

Door Case Versus 5740
Decided to practice on my old Daytona, then moved onto the 5740 bracelet last night. Thus far I have had very good results. The white gold is actually easier to work with. I actually don’t mind scratches, but prefer when the scratches are more even giving it overall worn patina, if that makes sense. I have used the scratch pens on the bezel of my old AP offshore a while back with decent result. I am very optimistic. I have no doubt I will end up in a better place...in the sense I won’t make it worse

Good for you wearing and enjoying your watches. I would not do anything about the mark until service and then just request a light polish. There will be many more marks on it by then. Now the fear of a getting a mark is gone. Good feeling.

Regarding AP Techniques (Authorized AP Service Center). They are good, but also can be somewhat aggressive on the wheel. For those that demand absolute perfection, then send back to AP, Patek, Rolex in Geneva...that said such a move comes with it’s own headaches. My biggest issue is ‘losing’ your watch for a potentially a year. But as an example, if you have a minute repeater you don’t want ‘anyone’ working on it. If there is a problem, the actual watch company will resolve it. They also have access to the same machines used to make your watch. The purpose of the above commentary wasn’t to disparage anyone mentioned, but to provide feedback, in laymen’s terms ‘keeping it real’, thus helping other collectors when deciding who to send their watch to and what to expect. The truth is that with any watch service/refinishing, there are humans being working on it...thus imperfect by our very nature. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
