Love 'em or Trash 'em?!

Hi guys,

Just how do you treat your watch? Some of us I know tend to beat the living sh!t out of them and use them solely as a tool watch. Others (like me) tend to baby them to the core!!

How do YOU treat yours?

JJ

I voted both even though I don't "trash" well define trash does it mean beater? well on any given day I'm wearing a Rolex and if I'm doing yard work it will get dirty right along with me, working on large mechanical things... it comes off and goes into my pocket would rather scrape knuckles or fingers then the crystal and more important is the safty issue.. no watches or rings when working on mechanical equipment.

I said a bit of both, although none of the answers really fit in my opinion. I don't really baby them, but I am somewhat careful with all of them. I will wear some watches in circumstances that I won't wear others in, but I would not say I ever "trash" them....

As many say, the scratches are inevitable, but that doesn't mean I go out of my way to get them.

I voted a bit of both, because I don't treat them like crap, but I don't take them on and off with white gloves either.

I don't know if my treatment would be considered "trashing."

I usually wear 'em 24/7. And I'm a klutz so at least once or twice a day, I hear the sound of the watch banging into a doorpost.

They get scratched and I live with the scratches. My steel Panerai is actually dented, which does bother me, but not to the point of fixing it.

I voted #2, because I don't give my watches any particular care, aside from wiping them off with my shirt if they get really skanky.

Fortunately my life is pretty simple -- I'm not working on oil wells or heavy construction equipment, so the only wear the watches ever get is the kind of scratches that a future owner could buff out easily.

A bit of both, they go where my left arm goes, so they have their bumps along the way, not on purpose, but shite happens.

I wear them carefully, but IO wear them. I'm a bit more carefree with my titanium Breitling M1, but with the Rolexes I am more careful. They will show below avg wear and tear. Nothing so severe that a service won't restore them to BNIB condition!

I had to go with door #3 but that doesn't really fit. I don't "trash" any of my watches, but I don't baby them, either. I wear a watch just like I wear anything else. I'm not particularly hard on anything I have on my person. I would say that my GMT, which I wear 85% of the time, looks nearly as good now as the first day I strapped it on 20 months ago. No dings, no scratches to speak of. I rub the crystal on my shirtsleeve to clean it. And I have still not taken off the hologram, although it is nothing but a green circle now.

I treat mine like a red headed step child, ridden hard and hung up wet! Wait, that's how my girlfriend treats her Ebel that I gave her for christmas! I must say it's a pretty tough watch!
I baby my watches until I knock them into something, them I get depressd. So far no dings on the new Sub, but give me a week!

I dont trash them, but at the same time I dont think about them enough to baby them. With Rolexes they are meant to be worn through anything and thats why I buy them.

Oh and the looks of them are appealing too. I guess watches that I would baby would be non sport watches from companies like PP, VC and AP as I feel their dress watches (non-sporty) cannot handle what a DJ or DD can. Just my $0.02

I guess I'm like most here. I just wear my watches. I'm careful with them, but I don't baby them. I used to be really careful with them, and had my "beater", but I figure if you're gonna pay what a Rolex sports model costs you damn well better wear it. They were meant to be used!

And a very good reply that was Bruce! A Rolex is a watch.. expensive yes but a watch never the less, if you have the money to buy a Rolex over a Timex I would hope you wear it as you would a Timex simple because it's a watch!

Thanks for the encouragement, this is day five for my new sub (first Rolex) and I'm having an internal debate about how to worry about it. I waver between-hey, no point in buying it if I don't wear it-and-but, it's so pretty. . .

Jason, you've got yourself one tough watch. Don't baby it. The Sub can stand up to anything you throw at it. You bought it because you wanted it and you wanted to wear it. Do it, man. Don't worry about it.

Thanks, guys!

That's just the sort of positive reinforcement I need.

Anyone have a good anecdote to demonstrate the toughness and "tool" factor of the sub?

BTW, since I'm focusing now on a Rollie model, I'm becoming worried that I need to switch to that topic section. New to the forum and would hate to ignore etiquette.

What the hell is the long word that starts with E in your last sentence and what is it doing on this forum?

Apparently, a violation thereof, dman.

But, since you're a moderator and all, I'll pretend I was telling guys from big states like you to respect smaller states, so don't "ignore Connecticut."

Yes, I'm sure that's what I must have meant. I just can't spell. . .
