I think I have watch OCD

As you know I just got the new Seiko and now I'm looking at something for a "dress" watch. I'm looking at an automatic Swiss Army. It's got the day at the top and the date at the 3 o'clock. It has a silver dial and black leather strap. I really like it, and if they give me my usual 25% discount I can get it at about $400 USD. I like that jewelery store so much I'm going to try and get a job there this summer. Some more of my OCD-ness includes wanting a winder and one of those 5 watch storage boxes.

Hey Tyler,

By the time you finally get to your first Rolex, your dream SS Sub, I wonder how many "mistakes" you would have collected. Go easy and save your money....remember this: The way to fill your pot usually starts with the first drop and then follows suit with a number of drops!!

Save those drops instead of buying a lot of crap and you'll be surprised how quick your 'pot' will fill up - enough for a brand new 16610!!

Just good friendly advice from a 59 year old man, my little friend.

JJ

I wish I could say something else, but JJ is spot on. Damn that hurt worse than I thought it would.

Don't collect fillers, they only slow down the process. If it something that you really want, and feel you will wear it jump on it, if not slow down and think it through.

Well luckily they can still order Omega there. They will just have to get it from their other store. Since I'm probably going to get a job there this summer I'll get pretty good discounts. Today I tried on a few Tags and the Swiss Army I was talking about. I'll probably just wait a year or two, and order a Seamaster.

All very good advice Tyler it's not that just because this is a watch forum and we talk the majority of the time about ROLEX and the majoritiy of us have ROLEX's that we above all people would want to steer you into a ROLEX instead of a Seiko. :o) Tyler if you currently have a good working watch, IMHO save for that watch you really want, when you have the $$ in hand go plunk it down at a AD and say I WANT THAT ONE! Then you will feel glow of "I finally did it"!

Tyler, I'll add to the other's advice - save your money and get what you really want. It will be worth the wait.

This may sound crazy to you all, but after some intense consideration I think I might wait untill I graduate college to get the sub. There is a reason behind this madness. You see I have figured that it would be a great reward for all that hard work because if I do go to med school to be a heart sergeon it will take 10 years for that. That is a lot of work. Knowing me though I'll get one before then.

Maybe you think I'm nuts for saying that, I don't know. My parents think that it is a very good idea too. I think they were actually planning to do that anyway.

Hi Tyler...

Just another thing you might consider. Most on this Forum may buy new from AD's. Some buy pre-owned. In fact many who bought new now own a pre-owned watch. If they sell to upgrade the watch they sell is likely in great shape.
Watches, imho, are not like cars. You could have an awesome Sub from say the 90's at a great price and have an almost "new" watch. A car goes rapidly down from day one but certainly not a Rolex because Rolex do not keep changing the "grills" every year. Also quality watches in general are likely THE best investment according to Cooksey Shugart who print a yearly watch price guide. Since even the 60's watches have gone up 2000%
That all being said, setting your sights on a quality preowned might be a realistic alternative in your present circumstances.

Same can be said for women, they are like the cars.

Yeah, but if you're in your car, and you see a low slung Italian sports car, the car you're in doesn't get jealous.
