Dude - I honestly do NOT think that a watch with a strap would look out of place with shorts.
More generally, I don't think we need to tie dress code to "watch code" quite so tightly.

A 5070G looks fantastic with jeans and T.
A 5711R would work with a suit.

If you're wearing a TUX, then yes a simple black dial dress watch (even with a few diamonds) is ideal but I can't think of any other "correlations" which are quite so strong....

I think this sports watch thing is about showing off. The 80's are back. Bring back the Ferrari Testarossa!

I’m exaggerating a bit. I still like the watches with straps... I’m just pointing out the declining trend. Patek makes 80/20 dress/sports, needs to reverse...
aP rolex and RM significantly more the reverse...

I don’t hate the 80’s....was going to buy a testarossa but the wife won’t let me buy that neither

I am not a fan of a lot of modern Ferraris. They've become caricatures of themselves - stripes, enormous badges, dreadful colour schemes, and either overstyled or ungainly looking. The new V8's sound worse than vacuum cleaners and the electronics do the driving for you. Tacky and dull IMO.

In watch terms, give me a Patek 3970 over an AP ROO every day of the week.....

Apologies if I've offended any owners in here. Just my meaningless 2p.

Ninja my friend, if they reverse, they'll become a one watch company. Like AP.

Regarding dress/strap watches with casual wear, short sleeves, shorts, etc... it's not what you wear, it's how you wear it.

Natural cool and gracious style always look good, no matter what you've got on your wrist. But lack thereof won't be salvaged by an expensive sports watch. In fact, the expensive sports watch will only compound the glaring deficit.

You make the watch, it doesn't make you.

Short shorts and your awesome 5711/1R - that’s post-doctorate level cool right there.

@pam66: congrats, those are some seriously great rides. I once had a Porsche 1989 Speedster for some 12 years or so, loved it. Now I'm looking forward to a day when all I need is a subway pass. And a few Pateks :-).

Maybe a Chronometre Bleu at $15k
A CB for 15k will that will never happen.

The 5131P has unofficially been discontinued so they not taking any new names. You can request either watch and Rhone will decide but as for the dealer having them to allocate, def not as far as I know. The 5131R is still strong. Look at the latest Sotheby Hong Kong sale prices. The 5131P has always been weaker due to its price point and of course the bracelet which splits desirability. I think it can be bought at circa $145k on the grey market.
You seem to know a lot about the UK distributor despite being in Amsterdam

PS - sorry I forgot you are Karl

No TR for me - love my Cali T - Can actually drive everyday -0-60 in 3.2 seconds. I have done many restorations of European cars , owned many Mercedes , Astons and Bentley’s, for me, today I want something I can enjoy w/o constant maintenance- no garage queens for me . Also I like not seeing myself coming and going on hi-way. James in San Antonio Tx:-)

Tremendous ride, for sure. BTW, what does "seeing yourself coming and going on highway" mean?

Ah, thank you for clearing that up for me. BTW, don't go for a few RMs. Or even one. Stick with your awesome Ferrari's and Patek's, as befits a discerning man of substance, taste and style. :-)

Should you still feel the need to satisfy the RM itch, just look inside a box of Cheerios for the next best thing and spend the difference on a real watch. :-).

Bored with V8 and Flat 6? Try a V12 Ferrari. I let me friend drive my F12. He has to sell his 458 now. He is very sad. I couldn’t even come close to keeping up with him in my GT3 RS.

I drove a 488 on a track. I wasn’t really impressed. The 458 is more fun. I think the F8 will be way better. It looks better too.
