Sell Speedy, get the new SMP?
Hey all,
I have a Speedmaster Pro Hesalite. It was my first watch, but I find myself kinda bored with it. I’ve tried the whole strap change, but I’m not finding the chronograph useful. I’m liking the new SMP on rubber, black. Modern, nicely waterproof, and different. I already have a Sub Date and BLNR. Anyone else ever get bored of their Speedy? I’ve been wearing it exclusively for a couple of weeks. Some days I like it, and some days I’m willing to sell. Thanks for the input! N |

If you don't love it, I would sell it and get the SMP. It's a fantastic watch at a great price.
It's not hard to add another speedy down the road if you miss it.

I don't know that Speedy goes well with your collection. I agree though, the new SMP is awesome. Really close to a sub and some people think it is better. I had a speedy and sold it and I do miss it.

Why not get the SMP in blue? You have a lot of black in that collection already.
I bought mine this past spring, and I am enjoying it. I got the bracelet, as I'm not a fan of rubber.

If it ain’t singing to you no more & become a bit of a bore & wearing it is a bit of a chore then sell up , as a Seamaster may bring more cheer .
I know the feeling exactly , I’m now on my 3rd Speedmaster after getting bored with the first two , I traded them in against other watches that are no longer in my collection & didn’t own a Speedmaster for about 5 years . But I always knew I would buy another & did so last month , but I know this ones a keeper . |

I’ve owned various speedies and none have stuck aside from my Apollo 8. Seamaster on rubber strap is a great option. A different speedy like the Apollo 8 is another. No one HAS to have an original speedy. I can’t get excited by them either.
They are not for everyone. Buy what you like mate. |

Had a Speedy sapphire sandwich - got tired of winding it. Classic watch, though.
New SMP 300m is absolutely awesome - don't hesitate! Good luck, Ben |

Thanks everyone. Winding gets annoying. And honestly, when I first got into this hobby, I thought it was a for sure thing that I had to get a Speedy. As I’ve grown into this (two years lol), I’m learning to like what I like and follow my instinct.
The SMP is definitely an option but I think I will be holding out for the white dial! Looks amazing. |

Personally I’m not a fan of the SMP!
I’d stick with the Speedy since you already have Sub diver and a GMT. But if you are set on getting something else get a sea dweller . Or if you want another brand diver get a Blancpain or Breitling... ? The only diver I like from Omega was The JB limited Spectre 007 version cause it doesn’t have a Reese’s PB Cup extra pusher on the left . Hope that helps . |

I recommend keeping your Speedmaster Pro. The watches in our collections appeal to us more at some times and less at other times. I often read in fora like this one about collectors selling a Speedmaster Pro, only to buy another one later that remains a cherished mainstay in the collection. I'm one of those collectors who did exactly that, BTW

If you need the money for the SMP then I would sell the Speed Master. If money is not in play then I would sit tight on the Speed Master. Great watch that is currently out of favor but will probably come back to the collection at some point in the future if you stay with the hobby. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Held the smp today at omega boutique, it was alittle dissapointing, watch felt “light” and band was alittle flimsy, this might be because i only have my ploprof to compare it against, but i didnt like it

Man, I feel like every collector has a “sadly I let it go” story. Perhaps I should avoid the potential for that by keeping the Speedy...

Dang, I almost liked how light it was. I’m spending a month in the Philippines in the winter on a few islands and it felt like the kind of watch I’d want with me due to its rubber band and such. We shall see. I’m gonna hold out for the white dial / black bezel version releasing in November

I actually get more bored with my rolexes than my speedy. However when that boredom comes, I don’t feel the need to act in it right away. Also, given the price that one would get offered for the speedy on the preowned market, it’s almost not enough money to entice me to flip it and makes me more inclined to keep it.

Only sold one Speedy, three months after getting it bnib and lost 500 dollars seven years ago. I'm frequently considering another one but never pulled the trigger.

You are gonna lose money with this idea (on both the sale of the speedy and on the purchase of the SM), but if you are independently wealthy and don't care, then it doesn't really matter.
