Vintage Rolex Box
What can you tell me about it? Age? What watch would have been in it? I've looked on the web but I haven't been able to find a match.

Just looking at the logo and the elegance of the inner box, I would guess a ladies watch of the late 1940s- early 1950s possibly.

The curvy markings suggest the shape of a Rolex “butterfly” rotor in an automatic (aka Rolex “perpetual”) movement. Maybe from the time when that rotor was new and the subject of pride?

I haven't been able to confirm it, but I've been told that the box dates to 1959.

It’s early... what is the measure in mm of the hole in the felt card? That’ll reveal what size watch went in the box narrowing the field. I’ve heard these referred to as oyster boxes.

The hole is about about 20mm x 6mm.
The box itself is pretty shallow. It measures about 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches. |
