ouch, sorry to hear OP! Agree that it would be good to hear who this trusted dealer was and maybe they could even be contacted for some sort of solution.

IMO the 5711 surely looks fake and I would say the ROC also looks off :(

OP said the watch was bought a while back, so hopefully before all the hype pushed the price up. Hopefully the OP can move past it.

Why do you want to close already? Let's treat it as an educational thread. There are those among us who, at first glance, after seeing the photos, know that something stinks, and others have yet to learn it ...

I don’t think this should be closed. This is terrible to hear but he has nothing to be embarrassed about as it could happen to anyone. If anything, maybe he has some recourse where he can work with the dealer. Who knows if there is an old ad or email communication with pics he has that can give more proof to it being fake. If the watch has box and papers one can assume the papers are not genuine either. This forum is meant to help and educate each other not to ridicule or embarrass.

have you already had that confirmed by an AD ? hopefully it doesn't turn out bad for all 3. this is probably the ugliest side of the hobby.

Definitely shouldn’t be closed. It does suck for the OP but it is a very important educational post for those who want to learn how to look at grey market watches.

I’ve asked the mods to close it and they shared that info with everyone, not sure why it was important to do so. It appears some on here get some perverse pleasure with watching me squirm. I’ve accepted the PP as a fake and I’m moving on. What I don’t need is every time I come to the forum I see other wannabe watchmakers trashing my watches.

The AP on the other hand has all papers and boxes and I was able to extend the warranty via the serial number. So according to AP it’s legit, or at least the serial number is.

Because at that point you had ignored my request for more photos for 24 hours, and it was my last effort at getting you to engage with the thread again. If you were a new member, you'd have just been banned at that point. Standard procedure for posting fakes.

I’m sorry this happened to you OP. If you feel comfortable posting the source/grey dealer, it may help others. If not, it is understandable.

Regardless of what happened, tomorrow is (hopefully) another day for us all and we all march on.

My Holy Trinity

I’m just curious that the OP wore a fake 5711 for “years” without anyone noticing and informing them? That fake would also have a pretty poor looking movement too I assume since the front is very poor?

Anyways, if you paid too dollar for that fake then I’m very sorry to hear.

OP - was there any paperwork with the watch? Have you been in contact with the original dealer? I'm very curious how this plays out so others don't get burnt by a similar dealer/situation. Not everyone has eyes for spotting fakes and not all dealers are 100% trustworthy, albeit many on here are

I'm sorry for your discovery and my heart goes out to you Tommy,
i am really surprised that a patek with display case back can pass for a geniune.
the law in the place i am from is that everyone should reimburse the person who he made the transaction with:
i.e you got your watch from a grey dealer....the grey dealer has to reimburse you and then he has to go and claim his reimbursement from the person who sold him the watch.
and that is fair because the dealer didn't do his due dilligence at best.

for the AP, i didn't examine the photos but i would take that to AP AD because serial numbers have been known to be stolen.
long live VC that no one is questioning

OP, are you comfortable sharing where you purchased it from? That seems like valuable information and I agree that you could have a legal claim against them. I’m also curious to see other photos of the watch if you’re willing.

My own version says hello! Not intending to add the VC to my 'Holy Trinity' collection due to the size preference and my small wrist so this will do for now.

I'll trade you my VC4500 for that Patek?

Interesting, sad thread. I guess this Patek fake wasn't so good, but they are getting so good that it would really put my off buying used. And of course as someone with zero Patek purchase history, I won't be getting a Nautilus ever.

Great shot. Pretty obvious which watch doesn't belong and, no offense, almost looks a little cartoonish compared to the other two.

Now and then I have an itch to buy a ceramic Daytona as I find it attractive in most wrist shots and the size is great for me too. At the same time I have never liked it a lot when I saw one IRL. Comparison pics like this serve as the ultimate cure.

Ouch!

Couldn't you say the same thing about a picture of two Ferraris and a Lambo?

Not so much. In terms of design the 15202 is the Lambo for me with its industrial, edgy shape and the 5712 a Ferrari with softer and more round features. The Daytona feels more like some AMG Mercedes to me.

I’d post a trinity but I don’t own any AP or VC.
