Yes, and some times just cycle the piece onto eBay or another platform. I’ve noticed this on very specific watches I was tracking for a while. And then, said watch may reappear back on the website.

It’s all somewhat irrelevant. If the price is right buy, if not leave it be.

It's probably just a small business making boo boos managing their inventory. eCommerce backends for handling product are actually pretty clunky. Even at enterprise scale.

Or they're just selling quickly.

Exactly, and next they show up under new arrivals again at often slightly lower prices than before.

I don't think so. Seems like a definite pattern that always cuts in one direction.

thanks for the info, and glad i'm not the only one who thinks ALS is on that level

2nd hand market is certainly hotter btw. I sold the Zeitwerk I bought brand new last year for a bit over what I paid in 2 - 3 days.

Im glad I bought my DATO back in Sept, I wanted one for some years and finally pulled the trigger it would have been much more difficult to buy one right now.

I think more then enough people start to get bored and annoyed with Rolex drought . Patek is unobtainable as well so next on the horizon would be Lange or perhaps even JLC helped by some promotional activity from Mr. Sharf&Co, it all makes sense :). And in five years time with the money printers still overheating the popular Nomos models for five times retail on the grey market ;)

Keep in Mind, a Datograph was going for $47k just a few months ago. And an Up/Down for about 10-20% more than that.

Now, the non-Up/Down is listing for $65k, so like everything in the watch market, it's all insane.

I think the DATO Mk1 was always undervalued and we're seeing a correction now. I've noticed ALS auction pieces popping up at Watchbox in Singapore a few weeks later at a significant markup (probably $10K more even allowing for buyers premium).

They bottomed mid to high 30s for a minute. Damn that was a buy and we all knew it.

Truest wisdom ever said...especially on a forum named...well...you know...gawd. I kick myself. I saw an OG rose gold 39mm for $35K and knew the devil armed with pitchfork on my shoulder whispered right "buy it".

I didnt.

Agreed, that was unnaturally low for a Dato gen1.

Granted, $65k is unnaturally high right now for that same watch, too. Just like everything else is unnaturally high. I still see people listing 5711/1A's for $115k.

Alp - Thanks for the langepedia website. Very valuable information. Reading more about history and complexity of the Datograph, made my purchase decision easier.

This sounds ridiculous but it’s true. Don’t waste your time with EWC or WB if you’re only trying to get out of something. Be patient and try and sell privately, or trading up may yield acceptable results.

They seem to have no problem raising each one by $5k every time they are replaced with another one for sale, but it’s always the “there isn’t much demand” justification when they’re the buyer.

Exactly. Don't waste your time with lowballers. Sell privately and get a win win for everyone.
Lange is an amazing brand; I wish the brand would be left alone and stopped being hyped by individuals that clearly have an agenda (their own profits). A bit of hype is good but look what becomes of Rolex. Passionate people getting sick of the games.

Not sure about discounts at AD in these days. It's also hard to discuss discounts because it's also heavily dependant on model. (Spending 30$k or 200k$, repeat customer, enthusiasm for a specific model etc.).

I agree with the boutique policy of 0%. ADs should always be allowed a little wiggle room, nothing like giving a bit to the customer to make him feel it's a win.

What a pleasure to hear this. Enjoy in the best of days. Datograph is a watch that needs to be understood, no wonder it stalled for so many years as it is a greatness apart from its brand stamp.

Enjoy in the best of days. I truly enjoyed writing that article and even myself turn back and read it from time to time to remember some stuff :))

Well done with your testes etc lol. My point is, most on here can no longer get -30 but I’m not sure (basically positive) the secondary values also closed that gap (I’m highly skeptical). So I still think it’s dangerous with Lange and I’d really caution they are a “keeper” if paying up at AD. obviously this excludes oddy

If you bought for -30 and received -28 (from msrp) - that I get
