I have to go with the Sub, but I have to clarify.
The sub was my introduction to Rolex and I have loved it ever since. However, due to other financial obligations, I waited several years before I finally got one. By then the ceramic bezel had been around for a few years. When it was first introduced, I was a bit disappointed, because I thought the older one looked better (the new lugs were just too thick). But as time passed the 6 digit grew on me, and I began to appreciate the upgrades, such as the glide lock and blue lumed maxi dial. Eventually I was able to get my sub, a 6 digit No date. But I ended up selling it a little over a year later, it was just too heavy and chunky for me. (I do have small wrists, 6.75"). But I still think the Sub is the best looking watch ever. I am hoping to find a good 5 digit date model this year. The Explorer just never caught my eye. They're a great watch, they look nice in the photos people post, and I've tried them on at the local AD. It just doesn't speak to me. The Explorer II however.... Good luck in your quest. Only you know which one is best for you |

Anyone has the weight of these 2 watches? I'm considering them.
Thank you |

Sub for me. I went through the same phase not too long ago. Went from having the 36mm(114270) then flipped it for the 39mm(214270) then eventually flipped this one as well to acquire and 5 digit rolesor sub. I have my 5 digit YM Plat dial for flying under the radar, No one hardly notice this watch, except for WIS.

Tough choice only you can make. Both watches are winners.

I am in a dress shirt most days, with or without a suit/sport coat. It's just my personal opinion I know but a dive watch feels out of place for me dressed like that unless maybe I am in jeans.
I like the Explorer much more for its versatility. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

In my case it was very simple
1. I could get the explorer now 2. I'm enjoying the explorer while waiting for the sub date 3. while waiting for the sub I've now bought the Mrs a datejust 4. When I finally get the sub I guess I'll be going on the "list" for a GMT If the sub was available at MSRP in the 1st place I could of saved a reasonable amount of money...I think I understand the ROLEX go to market model now. |

He has revived at least three dormant Explorer threads today. I would have thought he's considering a purchase, but he says he already has one; so I don't know what he's doing.

It was easier for me. I ended up with the Rolex GMT Master 2 LN as my first Rolex so it seems logical to get the Explorer next.
