Just so the highest ask for an SD4k that I’ve seen to date...11,495. That’s a significant jump if you ask me.

Why hasn't the 116600 SD4K price skyrocketed?

Prices dont 'skyrocket' upon discontinuation.
The 16610LV is a lesson to all of us on how this works in the modern rolex era. Lets discuss the 116600 again in 5-10 years This isnt 'rocket' science. Excuse the pun. |

So I get and agree that the low production run is a plus for the SD4K. But please don't continually talk about how beautiful it looks aesthetically because if it did, it would still be in production.

It's cool in that it was a short run, but that was for a reason. It didn't sell. Holding one side by side with a 116610 the seadweller actually looks smaller.... in my opinion.
New one in 43mm is a perfect size. |

The low production run was because of Rolexes decision to upsize to 43mm. Thats it thats all. The 16600 is legend & the 116600 is just the modern version. |

I got an SD4000 at $7k, 18 months ago. I see an increase in current price levels at $9k+ and suspect they will gradually continue to increase.

30 years from now, minimum wage will be +$20/hr in US, gas will be +$10/gallon and the SD4k will get prices of +$70k. |

In the UK I’ve seen private sales between £7,500 and £8,500 dealers at £9,000 plus.

I bought one for $6500 about a month before It was discontinued. So, yeah, it has already skyrocketed. I wish it would come back down so I can buy another. I refuse to pay these stupid current prices.

For €10,400.00 = US$12,300.00 Nothing beats the 116600 40mm. It's Rolex's 964. My humble 2 cents. Oh, and I'll be wearing the hell out of it. As always, tools tools tools. Last edited by Filipão; 11 June 2018 at 11:24 AM.. Reason: Oh, and I'll be wearing the hell out of it. |

They are just not that popular, however, if you buy them all up and hang on to them for a decade or two you might see the price rise significantly.

Prices have risen significantly on this reference and probably will continue to do so. but don't expect quick, massive gains. It will be a slow process.
In my view the SD 4000 has all the makings of a future classic - short production run, lack of popularity when it was in production and the last of its kind (the current SD being a radical departure at 43mm with a cyclops). Its a gorgeous watch and the last of the Great Whites.

too big for me...do not care for them. If it was 40mm, then I'll add it to my collection.

Just too thick for me for a 40mm watch. The Sub is simply more versatile. SD43 is a different beast.
If I really need a Helium Escape Valve, then I'd probably enjoy the increased legibility of the SD43 anyway. I feel like 15mm thickness is better balanced by the 43mm case. I do still think this watch has its merits. You get the function of a date without the cyclops which is huge for me. Now that I've had enough experience with the cyclops, I'm firmly in the anti-cyclops camp. I guess I wouldn't care with a Date-Just or a GMT (don't have a choice) but I really don't want that thing on a divers watch. The matte dial is also cool. I prefer the gloss dial but I do think the matte has its merits. From a function perspective, the fully marked bezel is actually quite useful. Very easy to read your elapsed time and I actually find the countdown bezel to be the most useful function for daily activity. The prices of these things have already shot up. Kind of a shame. I think this one could be quite valuable in the future, not just because of the small production run but also because I don't Rolex will ever make this watch in a 40mm size again. You either have to go vintage or go with this small production run niche model to get the modern feel. If I had the $, I'd probably have snagged one of these and kept it in the safe. |

SD43 = SD50 = 43mm. SD43 is the first Rolex dive watch at that size and it's only been available a bit over a year. SD4K had a very short run hence the interest in their collectivity. Quote:

I had the chance to purchase a SD4K or my 114060 at a local AD back in Dec/Jan. They even offered it at $10250 if I recall the correct amount but passed after giving it some thought & chose the SubC for $7k before tax due to the top heavy feel of the SD4K. Now if it had been SD43 then that would have been a different story.

The Sd4k has a really nice clasp to watch ratio, one thing I really love about the watch that nobody really mentions on here. Explorer I felt way out of balance, Submariner is close, but that little extra thickness of the Sd4k evens out the proportions. I might be crazy.
