Heading out to Cuba next week for a solid 5 days. In Havana for 2 days and the rest is spread out. Has anyone been? If so, anything me and my family should look out for? Recommendations, etc. all welcome!

Use the site's 'Search' function for past threads on the topic. There've been several in the past year or so. I'm sure you'll find a lot of good info.

Well, if American bring plenty of cash.
Credit cards are not accepted and be prepared to pay .13 on the dollar for exchange to CUC. |

Been there. Saw Pres. Obama there. Old Havana is very interesting. We went to the Copacabana club. Good show. Buy rum and cigars.

Man am I jealous! I’ve always wanted to go to Cuba and see it before it changes. As an American it’s always been a no go. Please update us when you get back!

As a Cuban I can assure you you have plenty of time before that in bold happens.

I have been many times with my family. It's a throwback to the 1950'S. I love the people there and it is safe place with family. The Cuban government is very respectful with the tourists as it is one of their biggest industries. Just bring American cash and change it at your hotel. Do not bother with your phones as it is very difficult to get any sort of signal there. The Cuban government monitors the airwaves mostly because they want to have some sort of control of what the population see of the outside world. This is what many many residents in have spoken to in my stays unanimously mention. Have fun, the culture and food is beautiful

Really? I know a Cuban American who goes back regularly and has for years even when Americans weren't allowed, that's another story. He's going next week. He spends his time out in the countryside. You might want to talk to him about what a poor dump the country really is.

See above. Will add that while at the Melia Cohiba, a very high end hotel for La Habana, I saw numerous Rolex on wrists of guests. They looked so out of place. Picture showing up at the poor kid’s house in Willy Wonka, who have a hole in their roof and are freezing and you have a $30K watch on. I guess Ok for some but I am way to humble for that. |

Agree with that. I actually met a young couple (with whom I still keep in touch) - took them to the beach for a couple of days etc. On $30/month - they couldn't afford it themselves. I think the people are tremendous and very warm - as long as you stay away from the typical troubles.

I have brought Panerai and Rolex many times. But a PM watch never made it. I suppose you could, you are generally in resorts the whole time, so I would not worry what so ever......Mexico on the other had.....no way
