Is it redundant to have both an OP and DJ in a collection?

Hi All,

I am currently the owner of a lovely DJ41 Wimbledon with a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet. I choose this combo thinking it would be both sporty as well as dressy enough for most occasions.

Fast forward to today, where I am starting to fall in love wit the green OP41. The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on one is a concern that there may be too much overlap between the DJ and OP if I had one.

Just wondering whether anyone here has had the same concern, or if anyone currently has both. If you have both, what are your use cases for wearing them?

I’ve thought about the same thing, as I have a white OP39. I don’t think I’d go with a DJ on oyster / smooth bezel, but would absolutely consider a DJ on jubilee, with a fluted bezel.

Not at all! At least not to me. I think your Wimbledon DJ and the OP41 Green are two totally different looking/feeling watches. I think it would be a great addition!

If you’re worried about overlap, why don’t you see if your AD can get you a jubilee for the DJ to mix it up a little?

I don't think so. I have a DJ41 but also have a smooth bezel BB41, which is kind of similar to the OP. I would say the entire brushed bracelet really makes a different. On top of that if you opt for the Jubilee it is different enough to justify it in my eyes.

Truth be told as many DJ variants as there are it wouldn’t even be redundant to have a different DJ variant really IMO.

DJ and OP though are fairly different. Not redundant at all.

No right of wring if you want to have both

I get you’re saying, but I see the Wimbledon as its own thing.

Maybe consider sizing down to a 36 to change it up a bit, if you’re worried about overlap.

To answer… no. DJ and OP are not overlapping. Even if your DJ is on Oyster.

No! I have both, and they aren’t even close, IMO. I guess the hour markers are similar. A lot of people have multiples of the same model in different colors, such as GMT lls and OPs. Buy what you like.

No. I have multiple DJs. And the green OP is pretty unique. I had an 116000 and found it to be quite different to a DJ.

I think your Wimbledon dial DJ is more dressy/formal while a green OP is pure sportswatch/casual. Good combo.

I would probably go with a GMT or SD to mix it up and add functionality if you are going to do a second rolex.

I own both OP36 (Black) and a DJ36 (Bright Blue, Smooth, Oyster bracelet) and enjoy them both a lot.

At first galance it looks much similar, but when you look into the details, they are two different styles; especially the bracelet (brushed vs satin) and the edges of the indices;

so sometimes I choose to wear my DJ36 for some dressy occasions, while OP36 is a bit more sporty; having said that, both are very versatile and can be your GADA watch.

Got to be honest, but I never really understand the "is it redundant" question... especially when they're different models.

I've owned (and actually do currently own) a couple of watches of the same model, just in different dial colours. Why? Because I like the watch and I like both dial colours. Simple.

There are no rules on how people should or shouldn't enjoy their watches, so my advice is buy what you like, when you like it, and stop worrying about how the collection "looks".
