Funny phone call ..

A friend of mine just rung me .. worried about the authenticity of his sky dweller.

Apparently the red dot wasn’t in the same place as the photos of it online ..

Obviously not. People should do their research before purchasing a watch or anything else they're not familiar with.

Yesterday, while on the treadmill, I was watching some Teddy Baldasare videos on YouTube and a video from Producer Michael popped up and he was showing off his newest "investments". One of them being a blue SkyD on Jubilee and he had no idea how the watch worked or what the functions even where. Don't think he knew there was a GMT function and when the inner GMT ring started to rotate he thought it was the date...

Just shows that a lot of buyers are in it for the name and brand recognition only.

Until I joined this forum, I didn't know that buying a watch just to keep it in a safe was even a thing.

Me too. Am always shocked When I hear people do this. Likewise, when people buy cars and say they watching how much mileage they put on the car...garage queens. WTF? Why buy the car then.

If my father had bought a Daytona when I was born and put it (the watch, not me) in the safe, I would have been an happy boy receiving that gift later in my adulthood. :) At my age, it is impossible to buy such a vintage watch.

My wife bought our kid a watch when he was born and put it in the bank safe. I am sure he will cherish them (his mum and the watch). :)

My wife and I have watches (Patek and Rolex) and wear them.

Both "strategies" (store/wear) are not mutually exclusive.

The real problem (to my eyes but it is personal) are people buying watches only as assets and with the sole purpose of making money. But who am I to blame them as the brands push that behavior through auction houses or ridiculous "partnerships" (Yeah PP and LVMH, I am looking at you)...

Take care.

I bought a new 2012 991 911 and drove it 62000 miles before selling it in 2016. The service guys always called me “the guy who actually drives his car.”

Saw this and thought the same exact thing. How he can call himself an enthusiast. Crazy.
