I have a Datejust with a knackered jubilee strap which I have now obtained a replacement for (excluding clasp). Now some of you are going to think this is a daft question, but how do I remove the old bracelet from the watch itself? I know that I have to force the 'pin' out but what can I use to do this so as not to cause any scratching? And does it have to be done from a certain side (taper)?

The question equally applies to the 'pin' attaching one side of the strap to the clasp.

In a bind I have used a Thumbtack. The larger plastic type with the big head. They are easy to hold on to while you push in your spring bars.

Thanks for the advice, all very obvious now. The reason I asked was that initially my bracelet just snapped on removal from the drawer, on one of the non-removable links. Then when I went to remove a link with a 'screw' in, even after heating, was unable to. It turned out to be a split pin filed to look like a screw! (Other screws came out as they should do). So, dodgy repairs on possibly a non-genuine bracelet, but now have a new one to fit properly. Thanks again.
