That's outrageous, however if you want those other two watches well then that's a major plus for you but if you're buying them only to get the 321 have you thought about going grey market? Yes, there's a premium, but it's sure cheaper than buying two more watches just to get to the one you want.
On that note, I've been on the list for a year now so patience is key for me although I am getting antsy lol My sales associate told me I'm getting closer to the top of the list so fingers crossed and I hope you get yours soon!

Thanks. It is what it is. Not really all that surprised to be honest. Yeah I do want those other two watches, but we are talking paying retail vs getting close to a 30% discount on the DSOTM model and 15% off on the 3861.
My only hesitation with the 3861 is that I’ve read some of the comments on here with chrono issues. I wonder if it’s worth waiting a bit for omega to get the kinks worked out

Interesting. I would not do the bundle and I would tell the manager that you want the 321 and when it shows up you will take it. You will be surprised the number of times this works or doesn't but who cares as I look at it as a form of extortion for watches. Go get the other watches at the discount mentioned and enjoy, wait and be ready.

I agree, and it’s disappointing to hear that a boutique is doing this. I thought omega didn’t play Rolex games.

I’d definitely get the other 2 at a discount and wait for the 321. It’ll come eventually.

However, the manager at the boutique wants me to bundle two other purchases -- the speedy pro Hesalite 3861 in addition to the DSOTM vintage black (which I have loved for a while), in order to get the 321 in quarter 3 of this year. The issue is that the discounts on the 3861 and DSOTM will be minimal at best.
If I don't go through them, I can get far greater discounts on each of those two watches (the difference would be close to $5k in savings), but I wouldn't be able to get the 321.
Tell them will take the 321 if it's bundled with two Snoopies!

So like, we got more threads than we have members with this reference...

I was more "vocal" in the original thread so I'm just gonna drop these off...
(and as they say, a pic is worth 1000 words )

I can't wait for more people to get these...I cannot see why anyone would ever pay for a Daytona when they can get this.

This is an interesting take. The Ed White has less power reserve by almost a day; half the water resistance; is not a-magnetic; costs 1k MORE; and has roughly 70% of the market value.

If someone is a huge NASA person, I certainly get the historical appeal of the Speedy. But I do not personally find it to be a mystery as to why someone would pick the Daytona.

Setting aside the hype behind the crown.... If you compare objectively....I much prefer the speedmaster for various reasons.

1). Sure it doesn't have screw down pushers/hence have water resistance of Daytonas.... But couple things here... How many people consistently get their Daytonas submerged? Speedmasters have enough water resistance for casual swims as is as well assuming no seals are compromised.
2). How many people use the chronograph on a Daytona regularly? I would bet very few unless they left the pushers unscrewed. Very cumbersome to screw and unscrew when the speedy is always ready to start/go.
3) Not even a comparison even if the Daytona had a see through caseback.. The 321 manual movement is far better to admire.
4). The 321 has a unique domed sapphire with a different rehaut that results in a very hesalite looking feeling vs the regular milk white ring on sapphire speedies.
5). Far easier to read vs Daytonas and far more balanced looking in terms of subdials.
6). The amazing Apollo mission/space history that is overmarketed for sure but doesn't make it any less relevant in actual mankind history. This you did mention.

I mean I could go on... But you can find plenty of material to read about speedmasters and why people prefer/follow it. I don't think it's a far stretch to prefer this watch to Daytonas.... And I do love my Daytonas.

I probably should should have clarified - I completely understand why someone would prefer the Ed White. The design, the history, etc. I have no issues if someone looks at both watches and says “give me the Ed White.” It would “make sense” to me.

The point of my post was, similarly, I have no issues with someone looking at both watches and saying “Daytona for me.”

My point was these two watches - to me at least - are a coin flip. There are pros and cons to each one. It’s really a matter of preference. I was merely responding to the notion that it is confusing why someone would pick a Daytona.

Oh, I get it.

I also get why a large number of people would be wholly disinterested in a specific watch caliber going to the moon 60 years ago.

The good new for those people is they will never get offered one.
I have one and I also have a WG Daytona. My opinion is they are two different watches, difficult and maybe unfair to compare the two. Both great but I would sell nearly all of my watches before I sold the 321.

And that’s awesome for you. I am personally a 3861 Moonwatch guy.

My purpose wasn’t to debate the merits of the 321; it is a great watch, for many reasons.

I would just never see an “Incoming!” thread with someone who picked up a Ceramic Daytona at MSRP and think “man, what a terrible move...”

That’s all.

I don’t think there’s any wrong answer if you can get either of these at retail. Market value for me plays little part in whether I prefer a watch or not.

For me the 321 wins hands down, having owned a black ceramic Daytona in the past and owning one of these now, I wouldn’t go back.

If it had 100m or better water resistance, I’d probably never need or want another watch. For me it’s more legible, usable for purpose and in my eyes just looks better (subjective I know). For anyone thinking the price ‘for an omega’ is high - it is. But if you see one in the metal it’s clear it’s not a standard moonwatch. It’s a different level to that.

I do think this in black and a white Daytona would make a phenomenal pair however, but in direct comparison to the black, I’d take this.

Having said that, no one ever says their own children are ugly

I seriously doubt people out there are cross-shopping the Daytona and the 321 (that is, considering both and choosing only one).

They are fundamentally two different watches, the fact that they are chronographs from the biggest watch brands is just coincidental.

The Daytona (especially in white) is an unmistakable icon for every watch enthusiast and their relatives. It is very well-built, and the striking good looks adds to that complete package. Excellent movement blah blah, it is a watch that I put on when I want to impress others (but not WIS, because, come on, who wears a Daytona to a GTG?), and when I feel fancy.

The 321 is a completely different beast. I wear it when I want to feel connected to history -- it's a silent confidence that I get when it's on my wrist. No one, except the professional lugs examiner, would notice that I have something special on. It's the student in class who knows the answer, but doesn't raise her hands up to get credit. Being a manual watch, it takes more care/time to wind it each morning, and somehow feels more delicate.

It seems to me that someone would be attracted to either one, or both. There's just no point to convince each other that the 321 is better, or vice versa.
