Need Help, 5513 Insert won't fit bezel

Hi,

I won this ebay auction for a 5513 bezel but my insert now won't fit, it's like a fraction of a mm larger then the bezel ring.

Do you think the bezel might not be genuine? Do you think t's just a matter of doing the right pressure for it to fit?

On the picture it has a space between the insert and the bezel but if I do some pressure on it, it won't fit for just a fraction of a mm...

Please help me, if by any chance the bezel is not the real thing I can still talk to him through eBay/paypal.

Some inserts are "difficult" to fit on bezels, speaking from personal experience. Others will snap right in.

Is this your first time attempting this feat?

Also, is the insert genuine?

Yes it is, It fits perfectly on another Bezel.

I'm more worried that the bezel is not :(

This is a tough call. I can't tell if your insert is genuine based on that picture.

Also, who is to say that your other bezel is genuine.

Just curious, will your newly Ebay purchased bezel (without the insert) fit your 5513?

lol, if that's the case I've got just the right tool at home :)

I've googled a bit and i'm gonna try what they say at this thread.

If it doesn't work I'm better off taking it to a competent professional :)

Let me know your opinions regarding the ebay bezel authenticity, there's some more photos at the auction.

Thank You

As others have said, getting inserts to fit some bezels are a real PITA.

On my 1680 I have two bezels. The original that came wtih the watch and a service replacement.

Inserts snap into the service replacement with no problems. To get a modern replacement to fit the original 1976 bezel, I have to force it and it actually shaves a very small sliver of aluminum off in the process.

perhaps put the bezel in boiling water and the insert in the freezer for a while and then give it a try. best of luck with it.

The boiled and freeze thing didn't work :(

I resolved the problem sanding a bit of the insert, it fitted just nicely after a bit of sanding, it was a very tiny bit of sanding, but enough for it to fit.. man.. this thing got to a point where it was a question of honour, I had to do it on my own :)

Thank you all for your help

hi did you have to sand the black edge finish back to bare aluminium finish to get it to fit?

The sanding thing is not the right solution.....The insert is tapered and sometimes get's flattened when changing or from shipping. This flattening increases the diameter of the outside of the insert. The correct fit can be achieved by use of a Rolex tool designed for reshaping the insert, or by my method, which involves putting the insert on the long neck of a wine bottle and using your thumbs around the outside of the insert and pushing down, in increments around the insert , with firm pressure, without bending it, to restore the original taper. This corrects the outside diameter of the insert. It will snap in place firmly like it should......only a fraction of a mm makes the difference. With a Sub insert you must be very carefull with pressure or you could break the insert at the 12:00 pearl.....

Just my 2 cents

That insert doesn't look genuine ... Or maybe because it's vintage..
