Happy to report vintage rolex repair success
I'm so happy. I finally picked up my 18k vintage bubbleback and my 1940 Precision which I dropped on the floor.
I can't believe I'm saying this because a few years ago I would have thought I was nuts, but I was happy that each watch ONLY cost $250 to repair. Crazy, right? The watchmaster is a very knowledgeable old time watch repairman who really knows his stuff. Everyone brings their old Rolex watches to him. He takes a while but he finds parts and enjoys fixing them. We all know that Rolex doesn't fix old Rolex watches so you need to find an old watchmaster who does know how to fix them, or an expert like Bob Ridley. While I was there he told me the owner of the jewelry store had bought out an entire safe deposit box full of antique jewelry from a local woman who recently passed away. They asked me if I was interested in any of the jewelry and I said no. However, he smiled and said he put something aside for me and it is a mint mint mint condition octagon shaped engraved 14k ladies 1930s Rolex. The best part is that everything is original. There is very little wear on this. He said it sat in the safe deposit box a long time. He took the back off for me and let me look at it under the loop. I'm trying to find my vintage country codes listing but can't find it. If anyone has one, please share it with me. It has 072. I think that is Switzerland but I may be wrong and it is stamped "Keystone" which I believe was a Canadian distribution market. It any event, he is servicing it for me and let me pick out a new band. I wanted a ribbon band but the don't have them so I took a black snakeskin. I should have it in 3 weeks and will post pictures. Best part is he sold it to me for barely over scrap gold price. A real find. Merry Christmas to me! Will post pictures when I pick it up in 3 weeks. |

Sounds like a great find! As for the country of sale code, I can't find 072 on the list, or just 72 for that matter. However, 012 is one code for Switzerland (there are others), and 720 is for Mexico - sorry about that! Luck in getting it sorted out!
