Questions about a Rolex OP 1002...
When were the last Rolex 1002's made???
I have an opportunity to get a 1002, and the seller claims that the serial number is: 9763XXX and has a K clasp. (Ser. # Dates to 1987ish, clasp dates to 1986ish) Does this sound alright??? I will try to post pics later to help. I totally trust the seller, and have no doubt the watch is legit as a result, but I've never heard of a serial number that high for a 1002. Lastly, the watch appears to have a sapphire crystal, or at least a crystal that looks a bit more low profile than an acrylic. Is it possible that this watch has a sapphire crystal??? I know Rolex introduced the sapphire to the Air King in 1991, but what about the OP??? At any rate, any information anyone can provide me would be fantastic! Thanks in advance.. Ron |

The 1002 died around the time the 5500 AK was killed off in 1989. A 1002 from 1987 will be one of the last made. The sapphire AirKing 14000/14010 was introduced in 1989.
It isn't possible for a 1002 to have a sapphire crystal and if it does, it's a retrofit and RUN! What is the asking price?

Here are some pics...
Still negotiating a price, he claims to be the original owner...no box/papers, two extra links, no service!
What is an acceptable price to offer? I like the fact it is one owner and not polished. 1002-22 by lizron@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 1002-11 by lizron@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 1002-33 by lizron@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 1002-44 by lizron@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr Thanks for your replies! |
