Thanks again, gents.

Here's another. More of the same, but I'm loving this watch!

I hate to be the one to tell you, but that is a fake 183. The shock protection system is the tell on these movements. There is no notch.

Sorry to say you have been robbed

Sorry to be the bear of bad news but you have a fake PAM183. I hope you didn't pay much for it and saved the receipt.

The first big red flag was your first pic. The dial top plate (that's a sandwich dial) is way too thin. Panerai never made a dial like that.

Here's the comparison with a gen PAM183. Note the 6 that I've highlighted. You can see how thick the top plate is compared to your shot. But I thought it could be just the angle, lighting, etc.

After you posted the movement pic I had no doubt: someone stole from you. The PAM183 uses the Panerai Calibre OP XI.

http://www.paneraisource.com/details/OPXI.html

The OP XI has, in addition to other upgrades, an Incabloc shock protection balance wheel (note the Y format of the shock protection and how it's aligned with the micro regulator needle). Your movement uses a regular Asian balance wheel.

Sorry about the sad news but maybe you can get your money back. Good luck.

Feel badly for you...I hope you get your watch back or the value for it as I see he already sold it. People must be careful out there and don't deal with people with no history or feedback. Too many bad characters out there and plenty of good ones so no need to take chances. If it seems to good to be true that is because it usually is! Sorry you had to find out the hard way...

This... I don't need. Haha. Man, what bad news. Just so you guys know, I took this watch to an AD here in Melbourne and had them check it out before my watch reached this guy and they didn't notice a thing. This sucks. I can't really do anything about it now. It's not a massive loss for me. Still extremely frustrating as I liked this watch...

F**K!! Be careful, cats.

Ben,
Commiserations once more, on the loss.
Doesn't fill a bloke with confidence of the ADs ability to discern sh!t from clay.

Given your written reaction, I applaud your ability to cop a gut punch.
You deserve a better outcome.

Could you feel safe buying another? I'm assuming you had OP paperwork with the trade?

Cheers
Richard

To use words of the doctor of Gonzo...
when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Hope there's something you might be able to achieve which is positive, for the victim in this piece.

I guess the question is now, do I still keep saving for a 16610LV or look for a new Rad...

Go Rad.
They still make bazillions of the 16610LV.

That's my theory.

Ben,

Are you 100% sure this guy was aware he had a fake himself? Also, have you been in touch with him since the discovery? I'm not defending him, just want to be sure beyond shadow of doubt that he's guilty before doors start being knocked on.

Greg-
This guy slim21 also had a fake Panerai 24 which he showed in other threads. Also- guy from Aurora in link above by Derrick took a Breitling Avenger with blue dial on trade and got scammed. Well- slim21 had a Breitling Avenger with blue dial in FS section the other day as well and is from Aurora.
