Incoming Gilt and Gloss Rolex Explorer 5500

Hi All,

Thought I'd share with you my latest acquisition; a 1967 gilt and gloss Rolex Explorer 5500.

I've been contemplating buying one of these for a number of years now, as I am fully aware of the speculation and mystery surrounding this model, but I took the plunge with confidence, and can safely say this is by far the prettiest little watch I've ever owned.

It came with Rolex service papers and is loaded on a later solid link 78350 bracelet, but the seller threw in the original 6635 stretch bracelet for free which was a bit of a bonus.

I took it to Rolex in St James Sq today who kindly removed the case back for me free of charge, revealing a beating 1520 calibre movement and case back stamped III.67. Serial number aligns perfectly with the production year.

Hope you enjoy the pics, and thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Peter🍻

Sweet!!! Please take some pics of it with the 6635 (which, if I'm honest, I would wear with it all the time!)

Very nice. It's getting harder and harder to find a nice gilt dial piece.

Thanks all, the 6635 bracelet is a bit fragile. Can anybody recommend somebody in London who can repair these?
