Tropical 1675 - Your thoughts

Considering getting this 1675 MK1. From what I can tell, the case looks refinished but is thick. Nothing else raises a red flag. The seller claims it to be a tropical dial and is priced accordingly. Serial is 1.8 million

I'd really appreciate your inputs on this one as this is my first foray into 'tropical' dials

I like it... but I feel like i would want to see the "tropical" in person, the lighting on these photos is so dramatic that in some photos there's patina, others none... In fact when there is lume patina the dial is black, when there is none the dial appears a very uniform tropical.

So long as you have decent inspection/return time and a seller you are confident buying from, I would pull the trigger.

Tom, thank you. That was exactly what I was thinking. Most of the sellers take a picture in very particular lighting conditions to enhance the patina of the plots/ tropical nature of the dial. The issue is I have no way of personally inspecting the dial, which would have been the best way forward.

Lot of cool there, but I’m not seeing tropical. But I’m no expert.

I agree 100% I think the lightning is being used to make the dial look faded.

I think faded is the proper description. Not tropical.

My 1675 from the same period is beginning to show some tropicalness on the dial but it's extremely difficult to capture which a camera, the seller appears to be trying to show the color change but good luck with that!! I've tried and failed several times, as Tom pointed out you are going to need to hold this watch in your hand before you make the call. The watch looks nice and the case does look refinished but the date seems to be sticking so reckon with a full internal service when balancing the pro's and con's of this piece, good luck!

In my book there's zero premium to a brown dial if you can't clearly see that it is brown. If you need to find the perfect angle and the perfect lightning to maybe see a tint of brown it is not worth more than an equal condition black dial. It still looks very nice but I would not call it tropical.

The dial does appear to be a "brownie" where it is taking on a brown tint. The photos are way over-exposed and when the brightness is toned down, the color tint seems to be more evident. In my opinion, it appears to be a nice GMT.

You'd like better pics to decide. My guess is that the reason the pics are over exposed is that it looks more brown that way. Not less. Checking other watches on their website pictures are fine and not overly exposed like this.

What’s the price of a nice tropical MK1?

I asked for more pictures, and the seller sent me a couple with 'indoor' lighting. But its under a 'sickly' yellow light. I am liking this one, just wish there was a way to inspect it personally.

Anyone living around Palermo, Italy?

Simple sunshine pics are what you need ..

Inside pics with beefed up artificial life don't really help the buyer or the seller - they are just confusing.

Natural sunshine will tell you the real story. With your current pics I'm just seeing a faded, flat, lifeless dial. A true tropical dial has a real life to it. It's anybodies guess from those pics.

I would ask the seller to really drill down with good macro pics of the plots too. The current pics almost suggest that they are washed and they may even be nicer than the current pics suggest.

The buyer should budget for a movement service too. Might be the angle of the pics but that date wheel seems to be off.

He has other pics on his instagram that don't look nearly as tropical,I wouldn't pay a premium for this One but that's just me.

Thank you for all your input gents! Decided to let this go, not necessarily because of the watch itself, but because I have no way of inspecting it before purchasing.

My first tropical needs to wait :)
