Date or No Date?

I posted last week looking for advice about trading my 116234 DateJust for a 16610 Submariner. I am leaning toward doing the trade, but I am now considering a 14060 Sub because I never could read the date on my Datejust without my reading glasses. The date function is almost useless for me. So, is the 14060 just as desirable as the 16610?

Thank you!

I think the 14060 is more desirable, but that's just my personal preference and may not describe most people's view.

What I'm wondering though is why you're not wearing progressive or bifocal glasses, if your vision is that impaired.

I do know what you're talking about though. The cyclops is perfectly useless to me without my glasses and I can barely read the time without them, too.

I love my 14060. I have the non-COSC version. I love the clean dial.

If useless, no date. Easy peasy. Please post wrist shots when you do decide.

I have perfect vision for anything past arm's length. Thank you for the quick feedback!

Many people lean towards a Sub-Date because of the functionality but will concede that the Submariner is the nicer looking of the two. I generally only need to look at a date every two or three days, and even then if I use a bit of brain power I can usually deduce what it is. I just can't see how anyone could say that a date function is essential - if they are being honest with themselves.

Now if you like the aesthetics of the date better then that's another matter entirely.

I love and have both the sub date and sub. Personally, I like the sub date better because I am used to having and looking at the date but I also like the clean look of the sub. It all comes down to personal preference and what you like.
Post up pics when you decide

I chose date!

Why not keep the 116234? I bought that first then a 116610 after for casual days.

i used to have a sub date, as i felt at the time that a date was a mandatory feature of any watch i owned.

i have since seen the light

no date is simply perfect :)

If you don't use the date then go with dateless, it's a nice clean look. However I use the date on all of my watches often so it's a feature I definitely like.

I love the clean look of 14060, 14060M, 14060M COSC, or 114060M.

The 14060 is more desirable to those that like it.

The 16610 is more desirable to those that like it.

So the question really is which group do you think you belong in (irrespective of the size of each group)?

Personally, I think the 14060 looks better, but I would still choose the 16610. For me, the extra functionality of the date is enough of a draw card.

Good luck deciding!

if you don't "need" the date, then, the submariner (i.e., no date) is the way to go for sure. so clean and well-balanced.

There is nothing like the flat clean surface of a sub.

It's beyond me why people need to be constantly reminded what date it is. Days are pretty simple. Today is yesterdays date + 1.

A watch has a purpose because time is funny. Sometimes when I'm sat in class 10 minutes can feel like an hour and when I'm playing football manager 4 hours can fly by in what seems like less than one. That's why I need to know the time.

It's one date, I go to sleep and wake up and it's the next date. I also check my planner every morning and when I saw this morning it was the 7th I could tell you all day that it was the 7th even with my ND on my wrist.

If you prefer the date by all means go for it but for me the date isn't a very useful complication. Also dislike the cyclops on a Sub. Love it on a DJ but on Sub and Explorer II I'm not a fan.

If you have to put the date on paperwork several times a day it's a useful complication. I have to do that in my job. And it's important it's accurate. Otherwise, I agree with your analysis.

Aesthetically the Sub dial is so much more beautiful without the date and cyclops. I've written this many times, but just use your bezel for the date. Set the bezel to the minute-marker of whatever day it is, so today your bezel is set to "7." Voila, your ND Sub CAN tell the date!

+1. No Date Sub is clean, beautiful because of symmetry. I don't like the cyclops. Then you don't have to keep on opening the crown just to re-adjust the date for february or for other months with 30, 31 days. Less tinkering, less complication, less chance of repair. Keep it simple and solid ;)

Yep, another vote for here for the sub. As for desirability, they both are, so there's no bad choice between them.
