DJII Fluted compared to Smooth Bezel

Stopped by one of my local AD's today. My wife wanted me to add a watch to my Christmas list. I recently gifted my older DJ to a nephew for graduation. He always admired the watch so I figured I'd rather be here to see him enjoy it. Anyway back to this subject. I've been looking at this watch to replace my old DJ and wanted to compare the fluted bezel to the smooth one. Case, dial & bracelet identical. I was stunned at how much smaller the smooth bezel version looked on my wrist. It even feels smaller. They're identical in size but what an optical illusion. Am I seeing things or what?

Wow, you're right, it does look smaller. IMO the fluted bezel looks better on you, but you can't go wrong with either.

The smooth bezel version looks smaller on my wrist to me, too. I am just about ready to buy one; probably the silver dial version; but the other dials are still in contention!

Both look great on you. I already have the fluted DD II, so I am especially liking the smooth bezel in steel.

Fluted bezel watch looks bigger indeed... it also had lots more character!

Looking at it closely, the smooth bezel really looks smaller.

The fluted looks better with that dial. I like the smooth bezel on stick dialed DJII's

With that dial fluted. I'd go for a simpler dial and smooth though. Any of the stick dials with smooth is such a good combination.

Fluted is a bit blingy for me. In certain lights it really pops and I don't want the attention.

Absolutely correct in your observations. IMO the fluted bezel looks oversized (unlike the older model). I prefer the smooth bezel.

Hi. I bought the smooth bezel last month.. I'm in love with it big time and can barely take it off. I'm finding so classy and under the radar type and goes with all my wardrobe so perfectly.. I love it. The other is also beautiful, I just found the smooth bezel a tad sportier and cleaner. Jmho

Smooth for me although a DJ looks awesome with the flute in certain variations.

Go fluted or go home! Seriously, I also feel as though the fluted bezel adds to the illusion of the larger appearance. Fluted has always been my preference. Classic and more traditional 'Rolex' look IMO

I like fluted on jubilee and smooth on oyster, with those pics though, I think I like the fluted better. Wish they would make a SS jubilee on DJ 2.

I prefer the smooth on all modern DJs, fluted for vintage.

Prefer the flutted on the 36mm DJ and smooth on DJII.
DJII smooth bezel w/darker blue stick dial looks fantastic.

Slight preference for Flutes dials - makes watch a little less reflective(mirror like)

Plus, I suspect that flutes hide scratches better?

Never cared for the fluted bezel, but definitely, the smooth one looks off. Like it is missing something. Dare I say, it looks as if you removed the fluted part.

I looked at both recently and felt fluted bezel looked too big. I think smooth looked smaller and better proportioned on my wrist.

Your call if you like bigger or smaller look.

The fluted totally makes the entire watch look bigger. Optical illusion but very real perception.

Fluted is classic Datejust, the smooth really is owned by Milgauss, Airking, Oyster Perpetual/Date. DJs and DDs can be had either way to suit your preference but it is getting away from the classic look. The key is to suit yourself and not others.

Good luck !

For the DJII, I think the smooth bezel looks better. However, I like the fluted bezel on the 36mm DJ.

Both look great, beautiful dial. I'm not sure which one I like better, I like them both alot. I didn't notice until now that the smooth bezel does look smaller then the fluted reference.
