Hi guys,
Can any of you help me identify my uncles Rolex Comex watch? I guess it is a seadweller, but it does not say on the dial.

Can you tell which reference number this is?

Depth rating on dial indicates it's a 1665. I'm nowhere near familiar enough to know if this is a genuine Comex issued piece or not. What does it say on the caseback? Do NOT provide the complete inscription here (use some **'s to block out last few numbers/letters), and block out a portion of the inscription if you post a pic here.

If correct it would be a 1655 with the desirable 600m rail dial....

What more can you tell us about that watch and your uncle?

A nice photo of the dial close up and in focus with a macro lens would be nice, possibly the same with the case-back but hiding the last two of the four digits that should be there.

Any papers, documents or other provenance that support the history of your watch or uncle? Everyone interested in these watches will be asking the same questions.

A close up picture of the dial and a similar one of the case back (with the last two digits obscured, of the four that should be there) would also be of great interest. Any provenance, papers, history etc that you know of? A genuine Comex 1665 is a highly desirable and valuable piece.

Hi guys, and thanks for your comments.

My father used to work as a proffessional diver for COMEX in the 1960-70ties. The company used Omega and Rolex as tools. He gave one to his brother, and he has worn it every day every since, so the complete history of the watch is well known. Since it came directly from COMEX, I guess it is genuine.

That watch is worth 6 figures...USD. Sell it to those who collect and buy a sub C and payoff anyou debt if you have any;)

Would probably do well at Christies.

I have a genuine 5513. As I was a Comex employee and was issued the watch there is no question of it's authenticity. Only problem is slight damage to the face.

Do you mean damage to the glass, or to the dial which sits beneath it?

Does it have a helium escape valve (small circle on the side of the case at 9 o'clock)?

Is the dial unmarked or does it have the comex logo on it?

Is there a faint number in the case back, and any reference to Comex?

Some pictures would be a treat for anyone interested in this thread!

While perhaps not worth as much as a Comex 1665, a Comex 5513 is still a watch comfortably worth a five figure sum.

Here's mine, one of the very first 50 :

In any event, keep all the Comex provenance you can which will support both the watch's and your own links to the company. Such materials will definitely add to the watch's value.
