Welcome to the forum.

If this is your first foray into vintage I would highly recommend going the route of an established vintage dealer or trusted seller who has already done the homework for you.

This is a heavy hitter in terms of price, so I wouldn't be concerned about saving money by sourcing it on your own unless you know the ins and outs of this reference. Just my opinion.

I really want to know exactly what to look for, I have a great eye for detail but I need to be pointed in the right direction.

Your question is too broad, but I can tell you that the serial-number range for the years you're looking for are about 2 million to 3.5 million. (This is an estimate only.)

In addition to doing tons and tons of homework about the model online, I'd suggest looking at as many authentic Daytona 6263s as possible. Most good dealers have archive sections on their sites (Andrew Shear, HQ Milton, LunarOyster etc ....), so it's easy to see many photographs of dozens of good examples of the watch to learn about it. There are other places online to find them too. Once you find a 6263 for sale that you're interested in, just compare it to known authentic examples. You can also post here and get opinions on a specific watch.

I wholeheartedly agree with the comment above .... buy only from a very reputable dealer. You'll probably be in the $45K-$50K range. No reason to take a chance. Good luck.

Great advice. Definitely not a DIY endeavor. Good luck!

You have been given good advice above. All the information is online otherwise.

Start with Stefano Mazzariol's blog. This should help inform you. But information doesn't necessarily with the decision process when it comes to vintage Rolex, and that's why others have advised to deal with trusted sellers. What you do is up to you, but be aware that the gamble can be quite painful sometimes.

I hope you are wealthy if you really want to buy that reference. If not, I would start with a less ambitious watch. 6263 is a grail that brings a lot of money. The chances of you being able to procure a genuine model at a reasonable price are very slim IMO. DO the research and best of luck.

I would like to think the OP is aware any decent example will demand an outlay of around 40k euros at the very least.
