1680 Red Sub... MKII
Hi all, thinking to buy this 1680 Red.. got some photos. Besides those hands color look lighter. What do you think?
Grateful for your feedback! |

I saw that watch on ebay a few weeks ago. There appears to be some dial damage and staining. I wouldn't buy it.

A few things I don't like about it that can be changed easily enough.
The case, not so easy. Unless the price is "outstanding" I'd keep looking. Mike Young can restore the case (he did a great job on mine) but the 'value' in these is in originality and completeness. It is nice to see a 700 crown on it at least... |

it always comes down to price...
Many here on TRF demand close to perfection with vintage. The market is dry for quality examples. When they come up, they command a hefty premium. Many forget these are very old pieces and when some pop up in less than perfect condition; or as I call them, honest condition, they feel the watch should be a pass. For me, I would proudly wear that 1680. Just don't over pay. I think this piece has a lot of character and no major damage that would turn me off completely. Dial scuffs and or stains here and there. But someone clearly wore and enjoyed that watch for a long time. This will still hold its value, but I say again, don't over pay. This could make a great daily wearer. Also a point to add, we are looking at blown up pictures of a small timepiece. In reality, many of the flaws we are seeing under magnification, will be hard to see in real life. |

Thanks for your comments. for those who support can explore further, what price range would you consider is fair? I need your advice as haven't had experience in buying this kind of vintage watch. Thanks

+1....As a wearer and providing the price is decent enough, I would buy it.

But north of 18k for that particular condition says a lot about the current market. |

Saw one like this in Japan for 15k. I guess 13k is fair as SubKing states.

It looks like this watch is back on ebay from the original seller in Ohio. Did it travel around the world and back to Ohio?

Usually a later service date wheel will have closed sixes and nines.

Does that cyclops look odd or is that just the camera angle/magnification

Looks like a hole in the dial
I’d stay away and get a nice white 1680 in far better condition for the price...or save for one in better condition... |
