PS I also don't think 99% of people who buy watches buy them for their intended purpose. Most Sub and SD owners aren't divers. Most GMT owners aren't pilots. Most Daytona owners aren't race car drivers. Most Milgauss owners aren't scientists. Most YM owners aren't boaters. Most Exp owners aren't explorers. Etc. Etc.
Well said and 100% true.
The 1675 could be argued as an investment piece if period correct, all original and in excellent condition.

The 1675, designed by hand, on a sketch pad, during the heyday of the brand, is a work of craftsmanship and beauty that speaks to a very specific era - the beginning of the jet age. Somehow these watches were made in such a special way that they grow to look even better over time, not worse. The modern GMT, designed on a computer, lacks the soul and inspiration of the original. It will never patinate. Sure, it’s bigger and blingier, but seeing them side by side just reassures me that less is usually more.
I like those points. But the modern ceramic GMT its not technologically advanced in electronic gadget sense it has a much more efficient escapement and movement. However, I would go further to say that does not necessarily mean that the modern movement is going to be more accurate than a cal.1575 movement, its just that the modern movement is perhaps a more sophisticated and refined movement with a 70 hour power reserve that will let you put it down for the weekend and pick it up again without having to wind it.

BLRO 126710 all day every day. And I have owned a 1675. Better lume, better movement, better jubilee, and just well...better in every way. Since I picked up my BLRO a month ago from my AD my Daytona is a safe queen.

I’m wondering how many who have had a 1675 and 126710 would vote? That would be more interesting I think

Super surprised by overall height. The case of the 1675 is so thin and elegant. Love the old case profiles with slight droop in lugs, bevels and lugs holes. I really like vintage Rolex.
But I finally converted a couple years ago to modern. Can’t afford to have them all. Dig the maxi dials/hands for legibility. Ceramic doesn’t seem to wear and the modern bracelets/clasps are awesome.
Can’t vote as I have not seen a new one in the flesh or tried it on. Owned a few 1675’s over the years. Guessing with my current taste probably vote modern.

I do like the modern version and it might very well be the next 6 digit Rolex that I will purchase. But if I had to choose between one or the other, the 1675 would easily be my pick. Rolex just nailed it when they created the 1675.

I have to assume when WG surround dials came out in the 80's people had this same debate...

Modern ceramic Rolexes.
Computer software-designed, cookie-cutter, soulless pieces.
All. Look. The. Same.

It would be great to own both, vintage watches are special indeed. But in 2018 if I were spending my money on one it would be the 126710BLRO....the problem is I can't spend my money on it.
Thanks for nothing Rolex.
Must agree - ideally both with a 16700 or 16710 thrown in also of course! Pity Rolex would not sort out the 126710 saga!

Really apples and oranges. Old-school charm and soul versus modern technology. Similar with cars. What would you prefer a '67 Shelby Mustang GT350 or a new GT350?

I'll take one of each!

Great photo. Really shows how the color pops more on the old aluminum bezel inserts, and looks so much cooler, IMHO, especially when they fade. The color on the ceramic bezels, whether it's the new Pepsi or older black/blue, is muted and just doesn't look right to my eye. Not sure why the colors can't pop more on the ceramic bezels.

I sold a BLNR for my 1675 Pepsi and have never looked back with regret. I'm really enjoying the patina of the older watch and I never see any others like mine, ever.

To me it came down to one and only one factor: the bezel colours.
I was watching with bated breath on the night of the release of the new GMT but when I saw it I immediately didn't want it because the bezel is pink and purple not blue and red.
16710 is the sweet spot. I just don't seem to be able to save fast enough though as the price keeps leaping UP.

Nice collection of Gmt and this is perfect collection for me.

I own 1675, 16700, 16710 and hope to add the new Pepsi ceramic soon. Your collection just inspired me :) thanks

Don't like vintage
Never liked them and probably never will

Tried hard and bought a 5513, 1680 and others. forced myself to wear them and tried to love them.
Bu I never enjoyed them
Sold them and won't try it again

It can be different for a vintage Patek or Zenith ... Ill try to explain :-)
When I wear a Rolex and want to feel something very well made on my wrist. Not a grande complication, not something very well finished but something that feels like you can't destroy it. And a vintage Rolex never gave me this feeling.

Don't take this too serious cause I don't want to offend our vintage collectors ;-) ... but most vintage rolexes feel like a fake watch. Only when I think of the weight and sound of the bracelet ...
