Hi all.

Is it possible to have a 1989 L serial Polar 16570 with a Luminova dial being original to the watch? My initial thought was that this is a service dial, but a friend suggested to me that possibly it is a "transitional" watch that could be all original.

As far as I know Rolex started using luminova in the late 90s, so this is most likely a service dial.

Luminova wasn't even invented until the early 90's and first used on Rolexes in the late 90's

I have an all original 1996 Polar/ T serial - and it's a Tritium SWISS-T<25 dial

I am not aware of Luminova being used by Rolex until 1998.

Service dial. Factory Luminova dials were in the 1998~2000 serial range and marked "SWISS" rather than "SWISS MADE". What's shown above is a Super Luminova dial and not original to the watch. Genuine, but not original.

At least it still has the "open 6s and 9s" date wheel. That's a plus.

The bracelet needs replaced or restored. The bezel might need replaced as well. Hopefully it is (or was) priced accordingly.

One nice thing is open 6 & 9 and luminova.

The SWISS MADE is your clue that it isn’t an original dial from the ‘80’s. I would only be guessing it is authentic service dial. Could also be a well-made refinished original dial.

Wonder if that dial was replaced because the plots were turning an icky yellow color? lol

I was looking a bit at the 16570 examples for sale, you should be able to find exactly what you want for a fair price. I saw some very clean watches with creamy tritium dial/hands for fair prices.
