Vintage Rolex Transitional SeaDweller Triple Six 16660

Up for sale is a Rolex Seadweller triple 6, serial 7,471,_ _ _, which I believe dates the watch to 1982. The serial number and reference number are clearly visible on the case between the lugs. This one comes as watch only with no box and papers. Service history is unknown, but it is telling perfect time, as I’ve been timing it for the last week. The watch is fitted on a 93150 bracelet.

The Rolex ref. 16660 transitional Triple Six was the first seadweller to have water resistance of 4000 feet (1,220) meters (doubled from 2000 feet), was also the first Sea-Dweller with a sapphire crystal, and has the unidirectional bezel (instead of a bi-directional one on the previous model). It also had the new model Caliber 3035, which replaced the Caliber 1575 of the previous Sea-Dweller ref. 1665, and lastly was the introduction of the quickset date feature.

This particular 16660 has its original Mark 1 matte dial, as evident by the “f” in “ft” being positioned over the “E” in “SUPERLATIVE” (as opposed to the Mark 2 dial that has the “f” over the “V” in “SUPERLATIVE”). And the Mark 3 and Mark 4 dials are the gloss dials that came on the succeeding Triple Sixes.

The dial is original and is the more collectible MK1 dial. The hands and markers do have tritium lume – just that it hasn’t patina’d to cream or yellow.

$10,000 USD shipped (Fedex) and insured (Parcel Pro)

SOLD. Thanks for all the interest. My apologies for taking a day to respond as I just got back from a cottage. The watch sold locally to a member on the Canadian Watch Collector forum, where I also listed the watch. Thanks for the space, TRF.
