Rolex damaged badly in accident!
NOT MINE.... It is of one of the good youtuber who does watch reviews. He reviewed the Rolex loaned from a friend and he was ready to buy it for $5K. He was going to meet him with the watch and kept on the rooftop and put his daughter in car seat etc and forgot about the watch until he was half way. He came back to see his Rolex box shattered at the corner of the road with multiple cars crashing it badly. He's paying the guy $5K anyways.
My question is.. can this Rolex be ever restored? Is it worth it? I think the restoration will exceed $5K. What do you think? Have you seen such a bad state of a Rolex? Only this much is left of the watch. What can be done? Thanks. |

I'm sure that with a new movement, crystal, case, dial, hands and bracelet it will look just like the day it was bought.

Good to know. But the question is.. what will the repair cost be? If it is going to be near 4k-5K, then it doesn't make sense to repair it.

I would imagine the best place for that would be the bottom of a draw or fixed to the side of his car as a reminder not to leave things on the roof again.
Why people do this is beyond me. It is literally an accident waiting to happen. |

Genuinely asking and not trying to be shady about this... would his homeowner's insurance cover this? Technically it wasn't his watch, but his friend's at the time of the accident. His negligence caused damage to someone else's property while he was at his home.
Also, is he really asking people to help fund this? It's a little weird to ask for help funding a luxury item. |

I'd follow two ways: 1)Get an estimate from a RSC. 2)Get an estimate from ABC Watchwerks. I believe ABC Watchwerks will do a fantastic job at a fraction of the cost of sending it to a RSC.

Watched the YouTube vid, the guy looks crushed (like his watch). Bit of a nerve though asking people to send him money.
Surely by the time he has paid to have it fixed it would better to pay the extra and get a new one. At least he has a new one and not a repaired item. |

Overpolished. The 5 o'clock lug looks thinner than the 7.

I assume the owner of the watch could file a liability claim against the youtuber. he was negligent. not good to have a homeowners liability claim against you but if you don't have the money.........

Watch Buyers Group might be a good choice for an estimate as well, they do a great job for about 1/2 the price of an RSC, but parts, of course, are still full price. What a horrible mess, years ago I drove off with a pay envelope full of cash left on the roof of my car, luckily my neighbor saw it and stopped me in time. I've been careful ever since.
