I would just take a sledgehammer and finish it off with dignity.
Then go buy a brand new one.

I drove off with full bucket of KFC on the roof of my car once.

When I saw what happened in the rear view mirror, I just kept driving.

Total write-off. It's safe to say the case will never be able to accept a crystal again.

Huge shame. I really dig his reviews, especially of the Explorer II:

He's a humble enthusiast with a good eye for photography and editing. I hope he doesn't decide to leave Youtube.

I'd send it to Vanessa or a trusted watchmaker, if they can fix it for $2K less than retail it would be worth it imho.

I don't understand. Was this guy just carrying the Air King around in his hand and set it on the roof? Never heard of anything so absent minded (not the driving away, but the carrying around of the watch). Like let me carry this Rolex around in my hand for the helluvit. Wrist or storage box, I see no need to ever carry around your timepieces...

Laser welding and a polish will fix that.

The worst automotive 'roof-top' incident that I ever witnessed was during the winter when a fully loaded ski rack flew off the top of a car headed down the freeway. As the other vehicles veered and darted to avoid hitting (or getting hit by) the thing, several accidents/collisions did occur. Apparently, the driver of the vehicle with the flying/bouncing ski rack was oblivious to the mishap and just kept motoring along. Whether the CHP (California Highway Patrol) ever caught up with him (or her) remains unknown.

I believe that is quite amazing that the watch remains is such relative good condition after having been run over by cars on the highway. Again, contact Alex or Aaron at ABC Watchwerks and ask for their opinion.

So driving on a freeway with a Rolex loose on top of the roof of your car is not safe?

home or auto policy might cover it but since its well advertised here (and else) that he never paid for it before it happened; SOL i imagine.

Why people do this is beyond me. It is literally an accident waiting to happen.
I used to be an expert at this. Left a wallet on the roof (handed in hours later by a Good Samaritan), a notebook PC (found in the middle of a busy intersection and still working to this day) and an aluminium dinghy that I forgot to tie down

He was returning it to the owner who let him borrow it. They were going to do a deal but were postponing it to a later date.

Also, have some compassion people. The guy is a good dude and put out some great free content on youtube. He's clearly devastated about this and unlike many of you, writing off 5 grand is a huge deal to him.

Now that's a very expensive paper weight at the office but nevertheless a very interesting piece for conversation with clients or friends. LOL

I would disagree in saying that RSC will be able to save this one...I've seen some pretty wrecked examples but this one takes the cake...what a shame
