If his video goes viral should be enough to cover the watch and then some.

That is so bad with the damage to his intending purchase. I feel for him.
Hope he gets over it and move on. As for returning it to Rolex I would imagine a total rebuild would outweigh the cost of a new watch. |

I used to date a girl from Phoenix and she would visit me in New York frequently before she moved here (and then moved back home after I had had enough ) One time I was helping her get her bags out of the cab from the airport and for some reason she asked me to hold her phone for a second. I put it on top of the cab as I grabbed the bag out of the trunk and forgot to retrieve. Cab drove away with the phone on the roof and we never got it back. Such a bummer.

Movement is probably OK after a couple of parts and full overhaul.
New bracelet, lots and lots of laser weld, a new bezel and sapphire. I'd say that's about $2500 to $3000 ? At that point I would just sell it for like a grand and move on. Let it be someone's project watch. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

Oh wait, hands and dial are destroyed too. Yikes, I'll give the victim $50 for it.

You never know what you have until it's gone.
All those nights bathing my watch in distilled water and polishing it with a baby rabbit now seem pointless. |

I'd get someone to fix the movement if needed & get a crystal & hands fitted then rock it on a NATO as a reminder of carelessness & would be a cool conversation piece!!

Not to say $5,000 is chump change, but I doubt this is life altering money for him or else he really shouldn't be borrowing an uninsured watch to do the review.

Fix is a funny word. Will they "fix" the watch as it is....no.
They will replace most of it...so if you consider that fixed, then yes |

It looks to me that there is entirely too much damage. I highly doubt that RSC will fix it. It needs a new case, bracelet, crystal, hands and the movement I'm sure took quite a beating so that needs to be serviced. I think the expense to fix it will be at least $3-4K. I feel bad for the guy. He looks devastated. Not everyone can absorb a $5K mistake and I'm sure his wife added insult to injury when she found out he had to pay for the watch that is essentially worthless at this point.

That watch is totaled unfortunately. I'm sure some independent watchmaker would buy it, restore and flip but paying an RSC to do it is just not worth it considering that it can be had in mint condition with B&P for $5.5k or a couple hundred less.

I would have sympathized with this expensive accident save for the fact that the gentleman is e-begging as though his viewers are an ATM machine to make up for his negligence. I only feel bad for the watch.

Repairable?!! Seriously?
New case New dial New hands New crystal Any part of the movement is salvageable ? Of course not. This watch is not repairable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How unfortunate, feel bad for the guy.
I have seen some damaged watches over the years but never this bad. A friend got his vintage DJ caught in a machine in his metal shop and smashed it up pretty bad, but the case and movement were OK. My guy fixed it up for him at a cost of about 1500. The watch probably saved him from losing his arm... Hope your friend finds a solution that is not too painful. Always insure!!!

He should sell it to someone who does case engravings (depending on the state of the movement and if a crystal will fit again).

I agree that asking for donations is unseemly. What's next -- a video saying he just saw a Patek Phillippe he had to have and would people donate money so he can wear his dream watch?
He does seem like a decent guy. Putting something valuable on the roof of your car is just a bad idea. I am sure he will bounce back and hopefully be much more careful with stuff he owns, and stuff he borrows. And stuff he loves.

Are you crazy???
There's PLENTY of threads where people say NOT to polish the watch, that it removes too much material and ruins the value of the watch. Should just send it for service, he can request DO NOT POLISH to the RSC so its value is not destroyed by the polishing. |

My thoughts exactly. Any sympathy this episode might have engendered is squandered by his shameless request for funds. If you need to beg to support your Rolex habit, you shouldn't have a Rolex habit.
