A Year on the Wrist--The Rolex Milgauss Z-Blue

A Year on the Wrist—The Rolex Milgauss Z-Blue

I hope you’ll permit me a moment amidst the chaos to celebrate one year with the Z-Blue. I really do feel strange celebrating a luxury item at this time, but the forum has been a great distraction and I look forward to the chatter every day.

Years back, I saw an ad for the Milgauss and instantly loved it. Back when ADs actually had stock (I think this was 2016), I tried the watch on and hoped that one day it would be possible to purchase it responsibly. About a year later, one of my students (he was an engineering major) wore the Z-Blue as his daily—scratches, dents, and all. He was excited when I recognized it. Well, 2019 hit. I turned 35. I’m grateful to be in the position to have a modest collection that continues to grow.

What I love about it:

The colors of the dial and GV are really stunning.

The stupid orange second hand.

The size.

The weight—some have called it “top heavy,” but I like a watch that you know is “there.”

What I don’t love:

The PCLs. Probably won’t choose another reference that uses them. (Would honestly put a Daytona on a leather racing strap.)

The E-Z link…granted, it’s helpful, but I’m spoiled by the Glidelock on the 114060 (one-year review coming late April).

--
Is it a “sporty watch”? Not actually, but it looks great with jeans and tee.

Is it a “dress watch”? Not really, but it does pair well with a suit (one needs a generous cuff).

Is it still my “special” watch. Yes—and I have bought 2 Langes this year.

--

If you’re “on the fence” and have the means—go ahead.

Thanks to the forum. Hope you’re all having a special day, too.

Thanks for the review; I always liked that color combo. However, reading typical posts here, I don't think it's a very popular watch (kind of like the new air-king). My friend has one and I think it's a cool watch.

I am glad it’s an unpopular watch No need for the hype wagon.

Nice review!

And I agree that it’s better that this is not a hyped watch. Although it took longer to get this one than it did my GMT LN.

First of all, I don’t have a Milgauss but I do have an AK that shares the same case.

Your comment that the watch isn’t top heavy but you know that it is there is spot on, and that is a good feeling

There’s probably a very thin line of online hype separating this from going to the stratosphere of grey pricing

The Z-Blue is fantastic. I’m glad so few (relatively speaking) like it and recognize it. It’s a small fraternity of enthusiasts out in the wild.

Aside from my former student, I’ve only seen one other in the wild.

Agree with you, definitely a great piece. I loved mine while I had it (it's one of my favorite watches of all time). Only reason I sold it was because I needed something more versatile.
