5711 VS 5164R VS Datograph Rose Gold? SAME PRICE?

Hey guys

I'm going nuts here.

I started with a 5711 white idea, but for the 5711 premium I can buy a Rose Gold Datograph for the same price or as I had in the other thread a 5164R.

Your thoughts?

That datograph is just beautiful! And seems like so much bang for your buck at that price

I'd go Datograph, you can spend years staring at that movement.

Rose Gold Datograph as I don't think 5711 is worth the premium.

depends... what's ur wrist size?
if we're talking the current gen 41mm and ur wrist is less than 7in, then I'd say u may not completely like the way it sits on the wrist. especially in comparison with the 5711 and 5164.

the original 39mm dufourograph, on the other hand, is something else! i absolutely love the black dial with roman indices against the 39mm RG case. much cleaner without the power reserve indicator.

At 39mm I'd get the platinum, 41mm in RG is fine but I don't like the dial as much sans Romans.

I like of like the 1815 chrono. The movement looks exactly the same but much slimmer. I think there is a limited edition one.

Don’t buy a 5711 at these silly gray market prices. Also don’t buy a Lange! Lol

So I guess that leaves one choice

Two ways to look at it.

If you look at the watch "intrinsic value", ie how much of a "watch" it is, then definitely the Up/Down is more of a watch than say 5711 and 5164a because the Datograph is a manual winding chronograph, the movement better finished, more complicated, more high end.

However, if you look at it from a "Potential value" point of view, the 5711 even at premium, can be re-sold at near your original buying price. The Datograph, esp if bought at retail and depending on discount, will take a hit.

So it depend on your priorities.

Very good points. It really comes down to what watch you want and what you are willing to pay.

From my perspective, the Datograph new is underpriced, the 1815 Chronograph new is way underpriced, the 5146 new is overpriced, the 5711 new at MSRP is way overpriced, and the 5711 at street price is insanely priced. Clearly, however, my perspective is different from most on this board and different from those wanting the Nautilus.

Don’t buy any of those at grey prices unless you are tired of money and want to get rid of it.

Since you went the rose gold route, I recommend the 5711r at retail and call it a day...

This.

I do not recommend a 5164R for value retention. That is just me.

It's hard to predict future value of all these watches.

Just buy the one you like most.

First of all these watches could not be more different. It sounds like you just want to be relieved of 40-50k in a hurry.

Datograph, all day. PT would be the obvious preference however if you feel you can wear the RG regularly and it fits your style then go for it.

I own both the 5711 and the PT Dato U/D. Apples and oranges obviously, but you are getting so so much more with the Dato. That we are talking about these two watches being in a similar price bracelet is just ridiculous.

As others have mentioned, 5711 vs Datograph is apples to oranges.

Whenever I bought a watch based on value vs a watch I wanted, I ended up buying the watch I wanted later anyway.

So, now I just get the watch I want and enjoy it.

the other choices are very very nice but the 5711 (blue) is the only one i would want to wear.

but current prices are unacceptable for me.

Have your tried on the datograph. It’s thick. Very thick and not in a AP ROO kinda way. It reminds me of putting an actual pocket watch on your wrist

That is one of the things that appeals to me about the Dato, and Langes, their olde worlde feel, but I don't like top heavy watches either and would put this on a thick padded sports strap to balance it out more.

In the comparison I would go with the Lange as I think it is more of a watch than the 5711.

If you were to walk into L&S Boutique off of the streets and are willing to buy a watch on the spot, is it possible to get 20% off of retail..?
