Thoughts on this bezel please

Dear forum members I’d be very grateful for any thoughts or comments. This is quite a difficult one (I believe) and I’m hoping there’s are some Milgauss experts out there in particular that can share their wisdom and expertise here. Basically I’m trying to identify a smooth bezel that was fitted to my dads GMT 6542 way back in the very late 60’s early 70’s. The bakelite bezel cracked and basically disintegrated during that time and dad not being flush with cash decided to fit a smooth chrome bezel that he had acquired from his Rolex watch dealer friend around that time. I seem to remember the dealer was of American decent and he had connections with USAF Lakenheath in Suffolk at the time and this is where he would source and wheel and deal in watches. The bezel has stayed on the watch from the day it was fitted until I recently removed it earlier this year in order to get a closer look and measure it. To get to my point I’ve been given to understand from other forums and members on this forum that it is likely/probably the smooth bezel from a Milgauss 6541 which was specifically made for the North American market, I only make this assumption due to the case sizes being the same ( so I have been told) and the time period he received and fitted it. I have no papers to prove its authenticity provenance merely putting two and two together. The supplier has long passed on so can’t ask him either. I’d be very interested and grateful to have some opinions on it if you would be so kind. Thank you so much in anticipation . I have included some pictures and the dimensions :
Outer 36.76mm, Inner front 30.10
Inner back 33.34, Height 3.36
Lip thickness 1.76

I can't help you with your question but the smooth bezel looks great! You've come to the right place to find your answer. There are some very knowledgable folks here. :)

Thanks donaker, it looks really great on the watch but obviously not period correct. I’ve called it chrome in the description for some reason but it’s stainless steel. When funds allow I’ll try and source the correct bezel ring even if it’s a service one, minus the bakelite insert of course !
