Tips for getting hard to get models

Hello,
I was wondering whether anybody had some tips on how to score those hard-to- get Patek models (5711) without buying up half of the store on the first visit and then spending 100k a year on less desirable watches and jewelry?

I can't afford one but from what I've read on this forum I'll take a guess and say there is no other way.

This should be in the Patek sub-forum. But the obvious answer is to buy from a trusted grey market reseller if that’s the only watch you want. Although incidentally you’ve chosen one of the watches with the worst (highest) market premium. Still in the end the premium you pay will cost you less in the long run than buying watches and other jewelry you don’t want in order to get an allocation.

Go grey. You can have it now, it will cost you but being what the market is you shouldn't get hurt much if you buy and sell right if you have too. You have to pay to play. It beats playing the AD game where you will constantly be snookered.

You want a Patek 5711? You would like to know how to get one without spending large amounts at the AD? There is no Patek AD that will sell you one without extensive purchase history., 100K per year is probably not enough. If you find a way around that, congratulations!

Back in 2017, i just visited the AD three times a week. Asking for a blue 5711. In about a year, i got offered a white one. Grabbed it.

Good luck or buy grey.
I got my Aquanaut in 7 months 2 years ago. Ask for a 5711. I think will get like 3 years or never lol. But so far I got the 5167, a Pepsi, a Daytona SS white, a DJ41 Blue sticks/fluted and just ordered a DD40 YG so hope that helps. They been good to me.

So it’s luck and bring liked and spending...

There is no shortcut other than going gray if that’s the only watch you want. And you probably want it cause it’s the most poplular. All the cool kids have one. To me, it’s bland and boring and I have no interest in it. So many other great pieces by Patek.

If your goal is to start collecting Pateks, you will eventually end up with one along with a whole host of other great watches. If you only want a 5711, buy gray.

Find out what the PP store owners loves. Maybe a nice vintage Rothschild, or a buying them a Ferrari, will help.

Considering how easy it was to get 10 years ago, I call BS on that story though...

As for the OP, try marrying the AD‘s daughter...

Maybe if you sell your soul and your first born to the devil and your organs to some shady dealer in the backstreets of Shanghai you'll have enough.

Very easy. Go grey.

IMO the 5711 was and is not intended for newcomers to the brand, it is the brands offering to its loyal clients. No doubt it has a beautiful simplicity and construction, but its appeal is also fueled by the overall sports watch craze, the (relatively) low price compared to others in the PP catalogue, and of course the lack of immediate availability.

Try one on at a grey dealer and you will likely be able to decide on the spot if you want it at 30,60,90,120K or whatever it is tagged at. That’s the easiest and cheapest way to make this your one and only Patek.

Spot on! It only in the fact that 10-15 years down the road, those cheerleaders mostly become unpopular and picking right in the first place ensures long term value and dependability

Or kidnap her and ask for a 5711 as ransom

thanks for the info!
Also, if the AD said that they've put you on the "wishlist," do you stand a chance of getting this watch?

I asked local patek AD if i could get 5212 the day after it was announced... they said they would put me on a list.. i checked in 14 months later and they said the list had not moved. No ETA. Prob just going to go grey market. Not much more you can do.
