Lange - other than steel odysseus

are there any non special $100k watches that hold their value? i realize some folks dont like to talk about prices....but some folks do. I like watches for many reasons and as a collector who's taste changes i want to be able to trade without getting hurt financially.

So i want a ALS but dont want to buy a Lange 1 or saxonia annual calendar and sell/trade down the road and take a financial bath.

I have bought and sold many rolexes and pateks with mixed results.

Thanks in advance.

buy grey market, save the depreciation. The value should hold from there.

Datos, 1815 chrono, and wg/black dial zw seem to holding very well.

But I’d be cautious with als if you’re very concerned about resale. Even today grey dealers offer prices that give them +20% margin due to the illiquidity of als pieces, especially at higher end price points. End of the day als is a small brand making 4-5k watches per year so price changes may be volatile as it wouldn’t take much for demand to skyrocket or plummet depending on the whims of a few hundred or a thousand collectors.

Do you need to buy new, from a boutique or AD? Or would you buy preowned?

i want to buy new - and want to spend less than 100k - i know buy what you like - but like many my tastes change and want to be able to buy from an AD now and sell later to grey at reasonable price for something else.

i really like the annual calendars but i see them and other sub $100k als watches trading low.
makes me a bit weary buying new from AD.

Just get what you like my friend. I am not a fan of the lower end but, they look like anybody could have made them. ALS shines with complicated watches IMO.

How about the white gold Odysseus? I have one and think it’s a fantastic watch which is reasonably easy to obtain and currently holding its value well.

i thought the white gold odysseus required a purchase of a significant prior purchase

could u share your journey of "reasonably easy" purchase?

It was my first purchase. I registered an interest at the Lange boutique and it took about 12 months to arrive - I got 2 months ago.

Anyone can walk in off the street and order a WG Odysseus Datomatic unless that recently changed. It might take a bit to arrive though.

The only Langes that require a prior purchase are the steel Odysseus Datomatic and limited edition pieces.

To my knowledge, the white gold Odysseus requires a purchase history at a Lange boutique now.

I would go for an 1815 chronograph. The boutique edition in White gold, ref 414.026, is probably the best alternative

I would vote for the 1815 chronograph. White gold with black dial or the boutique model.

these are very helpful - i appreciate the comments. At this point i will look at the 1815 chrono, see if they would sell a white gold odysseus as my first ALS, and im drawn to the Lange 1 moonphase.

+1 for the 1815 Chrono boutique edition. They stopped taking orders at some point for the 1815 Chrono boutique and WG/RG black dials, not sure if it's still the case.

Yes indeed, I stand corrected. Lange now requires a prior boutique purchase for the WG Odysseus Datomatic.

To clarify: For a WG Odysseus Datomatic, the prior purchase price point would need to be in the neighborhood of a Lange 1 or higher. A lower-priced piece will not quite get there. Current wait time is about 1 year for the WG and 3 years for the SS.

I was lucky enough to place an order for WG Odysseus, but am told they no longer do this. And, price increases coming.
