It's the date and the (divisivise) cyclops date that attracted me to Rolex. No matter what they say it is really useful. I look at my watch to see what date it is.

That watch looks good on you.

It's just all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconvenience we have to deal with.

It is a great watch, I love the proportions of case to bracelet.

To be honest I thought 36mm was the smallest watch for a man. But that 34mm Date looks really good on you on those pictures!

My first Rolex was a 34mm Date, stainless, fluted bezel, jubilee band. Wore is everyday from 1985 to 1993. It was a great watch.

I like a bracelet-y look of smaller dials, worn slightly loose. It calls less attention to itself.

Looks small to me. But obviously that's just my opinion.
I have small wrists, I think about 6.75, and I feel like even a 36 fits me a tad small, but again, just my opinion.

I think 40-41 is the perfect size for a modern watch. Can certainly see why someone would prefer to go smaller, just not for me.

Rolex Date... Just because you can?

OP, I think it looks great on you. Watches smaller than 42mm tend to look not so good on me, but this stuff is all subjective and what the hell do I know anyway? I haven’t even owned my first Rolex (hoping to rectify that as soon as possible). I think so much of this depends on personal taste/preference and also body type. If you like it and you liked it before you developed some bias due to what others think and what you saw others wearing, I would definitely get it.

I find myself falling into this trap as well. When Rolex released the two tone Sea Dweller I thought it looked stunning! Then I started reading people say “gold doesn’t belong on a diver” and “two tone is out of style” and “blah blah fricken blah”. If I didn’t put some thought into it, I’d have let that stuff sway my thinking, and truthfully it probably does and it’s hard not to let it, but if I’m being honest and stay true to myself, I still like the look of that watch a whole damn lot!

I also think it is really weird for a salesperson to say that so and so watch size is only for women or men. If they’re saying this they’re probably trying to push something to sell to you that they’re having trouble moving or are just clueless and regurgitating something they’ve read or seen online. I’ve seen women wearing Submariners and men wearing 34mm watches, watches with diamonds, rainbow bezels, etc. etc. etc. and the list goes on and on.

Totally agree with this. Never let someone try to tell you what sort of watch you should be wearing if you’re wanting something else.

Go for the TT SD! It’s a beautiful watch. Big TT guy myself.

My first Rolex was an OP date blue dial and I loved it. Unfortunately so did my wife. I ended up giving her the watch (she actually just took it) and got myself a blue dial 36mm DJ 16014 to fill the void. I personally think the 34 OP and 36 DJ have great wrist presence and if it makes you happy than it does not matter what anyone else thinks. That being said, I think it looks fantastic on your wrist

I owned a 2002 15200 date, Salomon dial, smooth bezel on oyster bracelet for 15 years. Fantastic watch and a great size. I traded it in for a 18238 and honestly can hardly tell the difference in size, although the president bracelet is so much more comfortable than the oyster and the day-date does somehow appear to wear slimmer on the wrist (probably down to the bracelet fitment)

I do miss the 15200 date and that Salmon dial was a beaut !

34mm was historically "mens size". It is now considered "unisex size" IMHO.

Ryan Gosling wears an old 34mm AirKing and rocks it.

Doesn’t get better than that.

I have a 7.25 wrist and my 114200 Air King is 34mm. It happens to be one of my favorite pieces.

It was not that long ago that Rolex discontinued the 31mm Datejust which was designed as a men's offering. The woman's line was 26mm. I believe the original DD came in 34mm. As men's dress watches for years ranged in the 30 to 33 mm, the 34 MM was a big watch when it came out. I like the size as I have small wrists and the Date shows some bracelet which gives a nice overall balance to me. With a 40mm, all I see is the watch head.
